UPCNS MARCH NEWSLETTER 2012 Message from the Director: You’ve heard of “March Madness”, well here at the United Parish Nursery School our theme for March is “March Gladness!” We will be exploring our favorite authors and illustrators, learning nursery rhymes, playing with dinosaurs and hosting several events (more information below). The teachers will be completing their assessment of your children for progress reports and preparing to meet with you all at parent-teacher conferences in April. Spring will be upon us soon and we will begin to wind down to the last few months of our school year. Thank you for allowing us to teach and to learn from your children! Fondly, Sandy Leacu UPCOMING EVENTS: 1. Monday, March 12th: No school due to a teacher Professional Development day (coincides with Mendon-Upton professional dev. Day). 2. Friday, March 23rd (make up date 3/26), during the school day, MWF students will receive a visit from the Upton Police Dept. and Eddie Eagle (costume). We will watch a brief video regarding gun safety and then Eddie will teach us a safety slogan: “Stop, don’t touch, leave the area, tell an adult.” The presentation is age appropriate and done in such a way as to not to frighten the children. 3. Friday, March 23rd at 5pm: Family Spaghetti Dinner Night; hosted by the Parent Board as a way to give back to our wonderful families. Come enjoy a nice dinner and some activities for the children. The cost will be $20 per family or $5 per individual. Special invitations/reservation forms will go out several weeks prior to the event. We will need them returned so we can have a head count of attendees and therefore know how much food to buy. We will also be requesting donations of baked goods for a bake sale table during this event. Sign up sheets will be out soon. 4. Thursday, March 29th special event for all T/TH students and one special adult: “Me and My Grown-up Night”. One adult plus the child attends an abbreviated school day in the evening (5:30-7pm). This is a great way for Dads or working Moms, Grandparents etc to get an inside view into their child’s school day. It is a casual, open house style event where you can come and go as you please. More information will be provided in an invitation memo soon. SAVE THE DATES: 1. Wednesday, April 11th, MWF classes will host a Tea Party during the school day. One adult per child will be invited to attend. The children will be cooking, making favors and centerpieces and learning their manners and hosting skills. This is always a very popular event. The MWF afternoon class will be joining us during the morning tea party. A special invitation will go out in late March. 2. Parent-Teacher conferences: April 24th –April 30th. Each class will have its own date where I provide a substitute teacher so the lead teachers can meet with you during class time. Phone conferences or other dates and times are available upon request. You must sign up if you want a conference. Sign up sheets will go out a week before. 3. May 29th and May 30th: Closing programs for all classes. QUOTES OF THE MONTH: Jack M. said “Mr. Kim sings beautiful songs!” Liam told Mrs. McCormick this: “I don’t want to be a teenager; I just want to be a boy!” After dismissal, the children were running around the school yard. Jack M. knocked on the door and said to Mrs. Lavin “I’m coming back for more!” During our pep rallies for the New England Patriots: Mrs. McGrath asked the children: “Who do you want to win?” Molly D. said “me!” “I like the Eagles. The Eagles are the bad guys. I like the bad guys, but I like the Patriots too.” --Sean L. Mrs. McCormick asked the children, who are the Patriots playing in the super bowl and the children yelled “The Giants.” Then Liam yelled “yeah, the stinky Giants!” Maggie told Mrs. Houskeeper this: “My Dad was so upset four years ago after the Patriots lost the super bowl that he threw himself on the floor!” At circle time, Maya said “Mrs. McGrath, you’re precious!” Tammie Smiley from the Dept of Early Education and Care (state licensor) said to our staff upon leaving: “It is so nice to come to a preschool that follows the rules!” HAPPY SPRING!
