Job Purpose: To support the section head to implement projects under the Regional
Transport Plan and gain the skills necessary to deal with Public Transport issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
Job Specific
1.
Identify and develop new methods of consultation and communication/information
provision for service users.
2.
Participate in discussions on national transport issues through ATCO (Association
of Transport Co-ordinating Officers) and work towards membership of the
Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
3.
Support the development of an Integrated Transport Policy through understanding
the needs of the community for access to services and linking this with sustainable
tourism. This will involve reviewing the bus network, facilities for bus
passengers/cyclists/pedestrians and destination management.
4
Undertake a training program involving placement for short periods in other
sections or departments and with operators.
5.
Develop the Community Transport service in its coverage and type of operation
taking advantage of the provisions of the 2008 Transport Act.
6.
Support the consultation and implementation of Quality Bus Partnership schemes
under the 2008 Transport Act.

To be responsible for establishing good working relationships both internally and

Senior Officers any areas which are not adequately covered.

operations, sharing a common responsibility for Health & Safety across the
department, directorate and Authority as a whole.

Introduction to the Transport Acts from 1985 to 2008 and to
regulations affecting bus operation. Module to include a short course
on bus and crew scheduling.

Introduction to the issues faced by operators in delivering reliable
services. To include short periods placed with bus and rail operators.

This will be an opportunity to develop your understanding of the
Regional Transport Plan (RTP), including the initiation of funds,
running a partnership and managing a contract with a project delivery
organisation.

Module 5 – Final Business Project

An opportunity to identify, research & deliver a key strategic project
based on your skills, knowledge and experience gained from your
placement to identify community needs and/or tourist needs and form
part of the Integrated Transport Strategy.
Your project will be presented to senior managers, Members of Conwy
County Borough Council and external partners.
Final Review of Performance

Development
Throughout your placement you will participate in a programme of
learning and development, work shadowing and practical training
which will support your knowledge, skills contacts and personal
development in the role. This will include Prince2 training on project
management.
Dedicated mentor support at a senior level will also be provided in
order for you to gain the most from your graduate placement with
Conwy County Borough Integrated Transport (Policy) section.
