BWRDEISTREF SIROL CONWY COUNTY BOROUGH Gwasanaethau Cymdeithasol / Social Services Department Job Description Job Title: Specialist Social Worker (CAMHS) Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Tier 2/3 Base: Argyll Road, Llandudno Service: Catchment area of Conwy Tier 2/3 CAMHS, Conwy & Denbighshire Trust. Population approximately 112,000. Accountability: Managerially and clinically accountable to the Consultant Clinical Psychologist, CAMHS, Conwy and professionally to the Operations Manager, Care Resources. Job Purpose: To promote child and family mental health within the catchment area of Conwy CAMHS, by providing a child therapy service within the team. To contribute to the development of the service by engaging in research and teaching, which furthers service objectives. Key Responsibilities 1. Clinical (a) To provide a safe, confidential service to children and their families, by providing a service in accordance with relevant professional guidelines and ensuring the rights of the individual child or young person are safeguarded. (b) To promote child and family mental health by assessing and treating children and young people with a broad range of psychological problems referred to Tier 2/3 CAMHS, Conwy, using evidence-based approaches whenever possible. (c) To maintain professional and clinical standards by engaging in regular supervision and by keeping up-to-date with new developments and research findings through appropriate Continuing Professional Development. (d) To promote evidence-based practice by applying clinically relevant research and/or teaching. (e) to evaluate the effectiveness of psychological interventions by engaging in systematic evaluation. (f) To facilitate inter-agency co-ordination of services and joint working by establishing close working relationships and communication with colleagues from other agencies, to ensure that the service offered is integrated with services provided elsewhere. (g) To promote anti-discriminatory practice and act in a non-oppressive way towards colleagues and service users. (h) In liaison with relevant personnel to take a lead in advising the multidisciplinary team on issues of Child Protection and relevant legislation, particularly The Children Act, 1989 and the Framework for the Assessment of children in need and their families. (i) To contribute to the multi-disciplinary aspect of specialist CAMHS by providing a social work perspective in team case reviews and planning meetings. 2. Managerial (a) To maintain a high standard of professional service by participating in appropriate clinical governance activities and such Trust training activities as are deemed necessary by the Trust, according to appropriate timescales. (b) To support the delivery of an effective and professional service by:(i) participating actively in Team Meetings; (ii) being involved in policy-making activities and contributing to the setting of quality standards, clinical audit and service evaluation, in accordance with national and local policies and practices, and (iii) facilitating the monitoring, appraisal and improvement of services. (c) To represent the best interests of the service user and maintain a good reputation for the service by communicating effectively and professionally in all meetings. (d) To promote effective working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team by working collaboratively and jointly with other team members. (e) To maintain a high standard of professional service by the maintenance of appropriate clinical records and by ensuring the proper safety and care of psychological equipment and materials. (f) To maintain an efficient and accountable service by maintaining an up-to-date caseload record, as appropriate to the service. (g) To provide an efficient service by appropriate prioritization of the range of duties required and by maintaining personal well-being through achieving an appropriate work-life balance. 3. Teaching & Researching (a) To promote evidence-based practice through clinically relevant research and/or teaching, as appropriate. (b) to facilitate knowledge and skill development amongst other professionals working with children and their families, by providing consultation and teaching/training, as appropriate. 4. Desirable Post-qualifying training in a therapeutic approach relevant to working with young people. EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE Essential Experience of child, adolescent and family assessment and intervention. Understanding of developmental psychopathology. Good working knowledge of safe practice and national/ Child Protection Procedures. Understanding of The Children Act 1989, as it relates to practice within CAMHS. Basic knowledge of clinically effective intervention literature/research. Experience of multi-disciplinary team working. Understanding of the Framework for Assessment of Children in Need and their families. EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE (continued) Desirable Thorough knowledge of clinical effectiveness literature/ research. Knowledge of tiered model of CAMH service delivery. Experience of working with agencies outside NHS or psychology. SKILLS Essential Ability to work collaboratively in team settings.
