Introduction.
Art is long, life is short.
Proverb.
I’m a theatregoer. And I am sure that watching an interesting performance is
an excellent relaxation. It is thought – provoking and entertaining. There is a
variety of entertainments available today. And the theatre is the best to my mind.
It is a marvelous entertainment. At the theatres people can see dramas, tragedies,
comedies, operas, ballets, puppet-shows and other performances.
A lot of great playwrights in the world wrote plays which were staged at the
theatres all over the world. One fact is clear for everyone: theatre makes our life
better and more colourful. It helps us to forget different problems. When people
watch a good performance, they have a rest. Sometimes a performance takes
people into another world, where usual problems do not even exist, sometimes they
are the exact image of our everyday life. Theatre is a great power, it can leave
nobody indifferent. It is so fascinating and powerful that it provokes complex
feelings and emotions.
Theatre plays a great role in people’s life and it is also very important for me.
Moreover, it is a necessary part of my life. Theatre is my essence, my mode of life
and my happiness. I think that theatre helps people to cope with different problems
and sometimes it even helps to find the way out of the incorrigible situations.
There is no doubt, the atmosphere of the theatre gives an overwhelming sense
of a holiday, it widens our outlook and makes us better and more educated. That’s
why I consider all people should have the opportunity to attend theatre when they
want. It should be at their disposal.
Fortunately, nowadays there is a professional theatre here in Buinsk. I’d like
to tell you about the history of the development of the theatre in Buinsk and to
reveal its role in the cultural life of the town.

Buinsk is a town with rich theatrical background. Its theatre has a long and
brilliant history. The first public theatre performance in Tatar took place on the 4th
of May 1917. It was staged by the teacher of the Tatar language Miftakhutdinov.
The historical fate of the professional theatre in Buinsk, its emergence and
development is closely connected with the name of the well – known Tatar actor
Bary Tarkhanov. As a matter of fact the idea to organize a drama company in
Buinsk came to him when he was on tour with a famous theatrical company
“Sayar” (“Mobile Theatre”. This name was given to the theatrical company by the
great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukai in 1908), headed by G. Kariyev. By the way,
nowadays he is considered to be the father of the Tatar professional theatre.
It’s worth noting, that the outstanding actors Kamal I, Kamal II, Shakir
Shamilski,
actresses
Gulsum
Tarkhanova,
Galiya
Kamskaya,
Zuleykha
Bogdanskaya and Sitdik Aidarski came to Buinsk in December 1918. They helped
the local amateur theatrical company and prepared many concerts and staged a lot
of plays together.
The greatest Tatar composer Salikh Saidashev as well as one of the most
prominent musicians of Tatariya Faizi Bikkinin took part in the development of the
theatre in Buinsk. They organized a national orchestra there and opened a school
of art. The conductor of the orchestra was Kiyam Gainullin. It became a vital force
in the musical life of Buinsk, training the young musicians for the rigours of
professional orchestral life. Salikh Saidashev spent much time rehearsing with
orchestra from morning till night. The orchestra enjoyed an outstanding reputation
within Tatariya. It took part in many performances staged at the theatre and it
sounded with the music of the great Tatar composers, such as Salikh Saidashev,
Nazib Zhiganov, Farid Yarullin. Due to music the performances were really
unforgettable and add popularity to the theatre in Buinsk.

Naturally, it wasn’t a professional troupe. Nevertheless, amateur dramatics gained
fame and admiration of the spectators because on the one hand it was a wonderful
entertainment and on the other hand the tickets were rather cheap.
The spectators of the theatre performances admired everything, including
first-class acting of actors and actresses, fascinating scenery and costumes,
beautiful music, voices and dances, curious plots and surprising work of the
producer Zuleikha Bogdanova.
No doubt, it was a significant achievement in the cultural life of the
provincial town. At that time the theatrical company consisted of M. Imanskaya,
F. Samitova, L. Syrtlanova, S.Zabirova, G. Sadykov, S. Bashirov, Z. Saikin, M.
Tupikski and Z. Kamskaya. So, the brightest pages of the pre-war history of the
company were connected with them, because they laid down the foundation of the
performing art in Buinsk. It was great that mostly, the works of the classical Tatar
playwrights, who depicted the real life of the Tatar people, were in the repertoire of
the theatre.
Unfortunately, on the 15th of March Salikh Saidashev left Buinsk for the
front as a volunteer and other actors returned to Kazan. Soon on the 10th of
September 1919 a new theatrical troupe of 12 actors was organized on the initiative
of the department of education. The Mobile Theatre of the International Art began
its work and soon the performances of the amateur theatre became very popular. A
lot of different plays, devoted to the everyday life of the ordinary people were
staged in the theatre and became very popular.
In 1924 the famous actress of the Kamal Tatar Theatre Zuleikha Bogdanova
came to Buinsk to become a head of the amateur theatre. Being an experienced
actress, she inspired the new life into amateur talent activities. The first honoured
actor of Tatariya Bary Tarkhanov also arrived at Buinsk because he was enraptured
by the Kamal Theatre and he dreamt of building such theatre in Buinsk. So, he
became responsible for the construction of the theatre in Buinsk. Being the man
in charge of constructing the theatre, Tarkhanov did his best to fulfill his task. At

last, 12000 roubles were given to him by the town authorities for that purpose and
a beautiful building of the theatre appeared in the centre of the town.
The theatrical troupe worked very hard. It showed the performances not
only on the theatre stage but also performed in different villages. During the
theatrical
season
the
theatrical
company
showed
approximately
40-45
performances in the villages of the canton. The plays “The First Theatre” of
G.Kamal, “The Young Hearts” of F.Burnash, “Galiyabanu” of M.Faizi, “The Blue
shawl” of K.Tinchurin, “The Fading Flowers” of D. Dzhabbarly were in the
repertoire of the theatrical company.
In early thirties the plays of the local playwright Ibragim Sadriyev from the
village of Tulumbayevo became very popular. “Old Bikmuch” and “The Peasant’s
Wisdom” were among them. The theatrical company also organized a lot of
concerts, where a humorous and topical folk verse song in a lively manner, that is
chastushka, was very popular.
At the same time some of the theatres of Kazan, Yelabuga, Almetiyevsk also
came to Buinsk to show their performances. Naturally, it was a helpful experience
for the theatrical staff of the amateur theatre.
The building of the theatre preserved its primordial appearance till 1949.
During the post-war years the building was given to the cinema, later the Centre of
Extracurricular Activities for schoolchildren was organized there. A lot of different
clubs, including theatrical ones were organized in this centre.

The last years brought great changes into the theatrical life of Buinsk. In
2002 the theatrical company of enthusiasts at the head of the young teacher Rail
Sadriyev gathered together for the first rehearsal of the performance, called
“Georgi’s sons-in-law’’. They were greatly interested in drama and wanted to
create a satire theatre. Unfortunately, young actors didn’t have their own theatre
building, because it was very old and destroyed. Nevertheless, from 2002 till 2006
the theatrical company from Buinsk took the first place at the republic contest
among the amateur theatres.
In 2005 in spite of financial difficulties the local town administration
soundly got down a fundamental reconstruction of the theatre building. It was
rebuilt according to the design of the architect Rinat Gilfanov not only on means of
the town administration but also on the charitable donations from citizens and legal
entities. Many organizations, enterprises and banks, people of different age, trades
and nationalities have brought in their feasible mite to the reconstruction of the
theatre. It was completely reconstructed in contemporary style.
By the decree of the president of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer
Shaimiyev a theatre got the title “The State Drama Theatre” and opened its doors
on the 30th of March 2007. A lot of guests came to share joy and happiness of the
citizens of Buinsk. The minister of culture Zilya Valeyeva, the outstanding
playwright Tufan Minnullin, a famous actor Shaukat Biktimirov were among
them. A new bus was presented to the theatrical company as a personal gift by the
president of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiyev.
Of course, it was a prominent event in the history of Buinsk as well as of the
whole republic. It became the fourteenth professional theatre in the Republic of
Tatarstan. Tufan Minnullin’s play “The Old Man from Almerdesh Village” was
premiered here on the 7th of April 2007 and won great popularity among young
spectators as well as among pensioners. In two days a wonderful show, called
“There is a theatre in Buinsk”, was staged by actors from Buinsk.
It was very
actual and enjoyable.

The State Drama Theatre visibly enriched the architectural image of the
town. It is located in Karl Marx street not far from the Central Square and became
the dominant feature of this street. It stands in the calm of the pedestrian street
opposite the park, amazing with the feeling of unique harmony of nature and
culture. One can help admiring looking at this building. A modern two-storeyed
rectangular building with lancet and right angled windows decorates the town
centre and attracts the attention of the visitors of the town.
It harmoniously
blended with the current life of Buinsk. In fact, it is a real temple of art, a national
pride and one of the main attractions of the town.
Nowadays it is the main place where the national culture and the mother
tongue of the Tatars are preserved. The beautiful interior attracts the visitors’
attention though the theatre itself is quite small. An interesting note: there are
only 194 seats for the spectators in the building. The theatre represents modern
halls, rather simple and functional in design and decorated in the national style. It
is daily opened from 10 a.m. till 9 p.m.

As a matter of fact, the theatre, which we know now, was created by the
director of the theatre Rail Ildarovich Sadriyev, who became a real organizer of an
active life of the theatre.
Rail Sadriyev was born on the 14th of October 1966 in the village of Adav Tulumbayevo not far from Buinsk. After finishing school he started to work as a
nursery school teacher at school for disabled children. From 1984 till 1986 Rail
Sadriyev was a soldier of the Soviet Army. Since then he has worked in different
places. He is a graduate of two universities. But since the childhood he has had a
passion for acting and he has never felt vague about the career he wanted to do.
He was captivated by the theatre very much. Being a businessman, he helped a lot
to The G. Kamal Tatar Academic Theatre. For example, he gave some money for
staging the performance “Guys from Kazan”.
Some years ago he organized an amateur theatre in Buinsk and became a
leading actor in it. All his characters are unique. They are unforgettable. To my
mind, they will stay forever in the memory of the spectators, because some of the
characters are funny and joyful, some of them are optimistic, cheerful and life
asserting. All his roles are full of emotions and make people think of sense of life.
Due to his skills Rail Sadriyev won a well-earned public recognition.
Rail Sadriyev is a teacher of history by profession. And the knowledge of
psychology helps him to create verisimilar characters. A lot of people admire his
creations. His acting is always perfect, breathtaking and often makes us laugh. He
has a natural sense of humour. He is known especially for his humour roles. They
are brilliant. It’s really fun to follow the story line of his characters. Being a
talented actor he tries to show the truth of life because the everyday reality seems
to be of great importance for him. His acting is always accompanied by a storm of
applause and the spectators often burst out laughing. With Rail Sadriyev in the
lead role one can be sure the performance is really worth seeing. The most
surprising thing is that Rail Sadriyev has never even had an acting lesson. What he
does is by instinct. His method is just do what he thinks is right. And he always
tries to get behind the mind of the character he is playing.

The motto of his life is: “What is worth doing at all - is worth doing well”.
Generally speaking, he is a very responsible person and tries to pay much attention
to everything. He likes to repeat: “Practice makes perfect’’. As a producer he
thinks that scenery as well as visual effects are of great importance because they
make the spectators feel as if they are in the middle of the events during the
performance. He defines up-to-date repertoire, demanding contemporary actors’
interpretation of roles.
Nowadays, Rail Ildarovich Sadriyev is one of the most widely recognized
comedy figures among the actors of our republic. More than 500 times he took
part in different performances and the spectators were overwhelmed and impressed
by his acting. He is a talented young producer. He was awarded by the Honourary
Diploma of the Department of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan in February,
2007. Rail Sadriyev became an Honoured Artist of Tatarstan for his personal
achievements in arts.
It is worth mentioning that the decisive role of Rail Sadriyev as the
trailblazer in developing the theatrical art in Buinsk is unquestionable. A great
number of people like and admire Rail Sadriyev. And they think that he is the best
and the most interesting among modern actors in Buinsk. In fact, he is one of the
most influential theatrical leaders, whose opinions are heeded even by theatrical
critics of Kazan.
The Honoured Artist of the Russian Federation Islamiya Makhmutova as
well as the Head teacher of the university of Art and Culture Firdaniya Sadriyeva
appreciates him very much. Once, during the meeting with the spectators of the
theatre, the first one even compared Rail Sadriyev with an eagle, bringing luck to
the theatre. She is sure that very soon due to energy and enthusiasm of the head
producer the State Drama Theatre from Buinsk will become as famous as the other
ones.
Really, Rail Sadriyev isn’t an ordinary person, because he’s interested in
many things. In 2003 the team of young people under his leadership took part in
the contest of the most joyful and intelligent persons and got republic grand-prix.

Believe or not, but Rail Sadriyev is also known as a filmmaker throughout
Tatarstan. Indeed, since 2006 he has been directing films and acting in them,
usually playing funny personages. His films give knowledge, education, pleasure,
and entertainment and they are full of humorous situations. He is best known for
the films “There Is a Black Sheep in Every Flock…” and “The Guest”.
The last one was produced by R. Sadriyev as a full-length feature film and it
took part in the third International Festival of films, called “Golden Minbar” in
Kazan. It was a sound and coloured film and cinema-goers could admire the
specific art of the producer Rail Sadriyev.
This film was highly appreciated by the jury as well as by the spectators. It
was a sharp satire on contemporary life. For producing films Rail Sadriyev created
a film-producing company “Niyat”. Nowadays, it is widely known among the
Tatar-speaking producers even abroad.

The theatrical company of the State Drama Theatre consisting of fifteen
actors and actresses works very hard under the vigilant control of the chief
producer Rail Sadriyev. The rehearsals of the performances usually take a lot of
time because the actors must recreate ideas, images, backgrounds, characters,
conflicts, life very carefully. That’s why, actors are sure to be encouraged by the
warm reception of the onlookers. From the very beginning the theatre staff has
been eager to stage performances and plays that people would like to see. And the
theatrical company is considered to be among the most successful in Tatarstan.
It is quite impossible to enumerate all the achievements of The Drama
Theatre‘s staff. For example, only in Kazan the performances of our theatre were
shown twenty six times. They also became famous with the audiences around our
region and all over the Republic of Tatarstan. In fact, satirical dramas are
especially popular among the common people.
One cannot but forget to mention that the theatrical troupe wants to give
everybody the opportunity to get acquainted with their performances. Despite the
difficulties of being on a tour, the theatre bus is often on its way and the acting
troupe often shows their performances in different towns: Zelenodolsk, Chistopol,
Yelabuga, Leninogorsk, Bugulma, Almetyevsk, Mamadysh, Nizhnekamsk,
Kamskoye-Ustiye, Naberezhnye Chelny, etc. One can say that the State Drama
Theatre from Buinsk is a travelling theatre, because its theatrical company has
already visited a lot of remote areas of Russia, such as Yekaterinburg,
Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Nizhnevartovsk, Surgut, Nefteugansk, Mari–El, etc. All
tickets were sold out beforehand because the audiences were excited at the
prospect of seeing the play and actors from Buinsk. On the whole, everywhere all
their
performances
were
heartily
welcomed
by
excited
admirers
and
photographers. So, a great number of people had a happy chance to enjoy the
performances staged by the theatrical company from Buinsk.
In fact, the last two years have marked a new period in the creativity of the
theatre. At present there are sixteen performances in the repertoire of the theatre.
And the repertoire is quite various, including modern plays and national classics.

They are very popular with the people of different nationalities because
they are translated into Russian.
Just one quotation from the newspaper
“Znamya”: “A big thrill! The spectators have found the performance wonderful in
every way!” A great deal of plays of the outstanding playwrights Radif Sagdi,
Khabir Ibragimov, Amir Kamaliyev, Tufan Minnullin, Lebib Leron, Ilfak
Shigapov are successfully staged.
For example, the play “Five minutes of
happiness left” has witnessed the talent of the Honoured artist of the Russian
Federation and the People’s artist of the Republic of Tatarstan Islamiya
Makhmutova. The performances “Killers”, “The Quartet”, “The Hostel”, “The
New Year Eve in the Snowy Kingdom” were staged for schoolchildren. The
performance “The Rosy Fog” is particularly popular among teenagers, because it is
about the problems of the youth, about the struggle against drugs. It is considered
to be very important that is why, it was included into the cultural programme of
our republic. The plays “The Hell’s Poker” and “It is Desired Even at the Age of
Forty…” of Ammanulla, “If a Poor Becomes Rich…” of Ilfak Shigapov , “If a
Lion Were a Dog…” of Khabir Ibragimov also enjoy wide popularity among
spectators.
But the most favourite performance of the theatrical company is Tufan
Minnullin’s play “The Sons- in –Law”, that has become a visit card of the
theatrical company of the Drama Theatre. It is simply a bit changed version of the
upper-mentioned “Georgi’s Sons–In–Law”. By the way, the theatre has just
opened its seventh season and gone to the Republic of Bashkortostan for tour.
Naturally, the theatrical company has performed the highly appreciated by the
spectators “Sons-In-Law” during the tour in Ufa as well as in other cities and
regions of Bashkortostan republic. It has become a furor. The main characters of
the play were performed by the actors Rail Sadriyev (Zhagrap), Amina
Sharafutdinova (Paly), Khamida Mirzayanova (Audaki), Zukhra Murzakhanova
(Anuk). The young actors Ilshat Gaisin (Bechkee), Gulnaz Gizzatullina (Katrina),
Also Shigabutdinova (Garpina) also impressed the audience by their inspiration.
The youngest actor Vildan Ibragimov (Mikush) from the village of Aksu has been

performing this role since his childhood and demonstrated his real talent. The
leading actor of the theatre Ildar Latypov was incomparable as Georgi. The young
actress Liliya Galiullina (Urina) was called “A real pearl of the Drama Theatre” in
the newspaper “Ufimskaya Pravda”. On the whole, everything was perfect: acting,
music, dances, scenery… The scenery was made by the outstanding artist of the
Republic of Tatarstan Lenar Gilmutdinov.
It is in full harmony with the plot of
the play. He brilliantly used his bright coloures to show the charm of the village
life. A local businessman Farit Sadriyev gave a great support to stage this Tufan
Minullin’s play.
In fact, nowadays the theatrical company usually takes the audience so
completely into confidence that they can follow the play-story very easily. For the
audience there are no mysteries or surprises in the play; the characters may be
fooled and puzzled, but the members of the audience never are. They simply derive
their delight from laughing at characters.
Next year the theatrical company is going to stage Khabir Ibragim’s play
“The Children of Nature” about ecological problems. The cultural life of the
theatre is rich and varied. To tell the truth, the audience is very different. That’s
why there are performances for people of different ages, education, interests and so
on. In reality the audience can enjoy watching here not only performances of the
theatrical company but also can admire various entertaining programs of students’
troupes of local schools, colleges and other educational institutions. It’s also
necessary to mention that actors try to do their best to hold sacred the memory and
traditions of the past and confidently face the future. So, the value of the theatre is
great for the citizens of Buinsk.
As a matter of fact, the theatrical company is praised for its performances,
though it doesn’t consist of professional drama actors. On the whole, there are 103
men, working at the State Drama Theatre. Definitely, theatre is a wonderful
combination of arts, that’s why a lot of different specialists should be involved in
its work. The theatre in Buinsk needs a professional sound-producer, a designer
and a technician because there are a lot of different technical problems.

Conclusion.
In conclusion it should be mentioned that the State Drama Theatre decorates
our town, amazing all with its elegance and beauty. It became the favourite place
of the rest of citizens and guests of Buinsk. And nowadays theatergoing is one of
the most popular forms of leisure outside home. And of all places of entertainment
in Buinsk none is as famous as the Drama Theatre. The number of theatre-lovers
is still increasing. The theatre is always filled up.
And I take it for granted that the influential role of the State Drama Theatre is
enormous in the cultural life of Buinsk. Undoubtedly, it is a true centre of culture
not only of our town, but of the entire Volga Region.
The proverb says: “Seeing is believing” and I recommend you to visit the
Drama Theatre in Buinsk by all means because it is the best way to become
familiar with its stars. So, welcome to the State Drama Theatre to get acquainted
with its performances and enjoy!
