ARAB TIMES, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2015 LOCAL 3 HH the Amir praises traits of late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Sabah KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah praised traits of the late Sheikh Abdullah Mubarak Al-Sabah that helped the small Gulf country to develop in all fields during the 1940s-1960s. This remark was made by His Highness the Amir in a letter addressed to Dr Suad Mohammad Al-Sabah who has written a book on the late Sheikh: “History of Abdullah Mubarak Al-Sabah in Pictures.” The book is published by Suad Al-Sabah Publishing House. It tells the biography of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mubarak in pictures. Sheikh Abdullah Mubarak Al-Sabah was the deputy of the late Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem, the 11th ruler of Kuwait. The late Sheikh contributed in developing vital sectors of the country such as the Army, the Police, Broadcasting and Aviation. He resigned from office in 1962 and quit his political career. He died in 1991. Kuwait spares no effort to keep up with remote sensing systems Bid to raise awareness in importance of GIS KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8, (KUNA): Deputy Director General in the Central Agency for Information Technology Majida AlNaqib said on Sunday that Kuwait spares no effort to keep up with remote sensing system and harness all the capabilities to take advantage of the latest in science in this area. She said in the opening of “Discover Kuwait” conference organized by the Advisory Unit of of the Geographical Information System (GIS) and remote sensing at the University of Kuwait that the apparatus seeks to acquire any device that would contribute to the development of performance and output including remote sensing and geographic information systems. Al-Naqib added that the device is making continuous efforts in promoting optimal utilization of information technology in all aspects of life, pointing out that all government services have been developed to keep up with the latest developments in information technology. For his part, Advisory Unit Manager of GIS and remote sensing at the University of Kuwait Dr Mohammad Al-Sahli asserted the apparatus’ keenness to raise awareness in the Kuwaiti society about the importance of GIS and remote sensing systems and clarify its multiple uses and its key pillar in the strategic, urban and environmental planning. He noted that this can be achieved through scientific lectures, training courses and workshops, as well as through the provision of technical advice and participation in the preparation of strategic plans for the rehabilitation of national cadres to enable the government and private sectors to take advantage of science and technology associated with spatial analysis. College of Education at Kuwait University recently organized a workshop on “Painting and the Pleasure Derived” under the auspices of Dean Professor Najat Al-Mutawa. The lecture was delivered by Dr Ghader in the presence of the chairman of Curricula and Teaching Methodologies Dr Ma’adi Al-Ajmi, chairman of the Social Committee Dr Nouri Al-Wetar and students. Kuwaiti youth, students are country’s future Sheikha Al-Zain calls for combating violence KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8, (KUNA): Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs Sheikha AlZain Al-Sabah stressed the necessity of finding radical solutions to growing violence in the Kuwaiti society. Sheikha Al-Zain made the remark Sunday while launching a campaign on ways to combat violence that was organized by Family Center for psychological and social counseling at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Kuwait University. She said that the Kuwait University is the main platform in societal building as it creates leaders of the future, underling the key role of Faculty of Social Sciences in shedding light on societal issues and finding appropriate solutions to them. Combating violence and addressing social problems contribute to developing society in all fields, she said, adding that human being in general and youth in particular are a main component of the society. She said the ministry was keen on sponsoring the campaign and attending its session out of its key role in enhancing the values of tolerance and cooperation among the Kuwaiti youth and students as they are the country’s future and a base of its renaissance. The ministry contributes to evolving and supporting the Kuwaiti society by using advanced technology to cope with the latest developments across the globe so as to build a strong and coherent society for facing difficulties, she made clear. Sheikha Al-Zain called for implementing concepts of dialogue, respecting others’ opinions, disseminating the culture of tolerance and discarding violence in the Kuwaiti society, especially among youth.
