ServSafe Study Guide

ServSafe® Pre-Training
Lyn Brock, MA, RD
I have put together two types of materials which I hope will help you as you
prepare for the ServSafe® class and the exam.
1. I have outlined the ServSafe® book by chapters (except Chapter 8 – will cover
that at the in-person training). The outlines include:


guidance and a suggested structure for studying the ServSafe® book.
“Hints” and some methods you may find helpful in remembering some of the
information for the exam.
These outlines are not all-inclusive, and they do not cover every possible test
question. From my experience, I tried to include the common test questions.
You will also find references in the outlines to areas in which ServSafe® uses
different information than what you may already be familiar with from USDA.
ServSafe is based on the FDA Model Food Code.
FOR NOW, for the exam, you will need to know the ServSafe® information.
In teaching your classes, you will continue to use the USDA guidelines.
2. I have put together some study aids like flash cards and games you can play.
These can be found online at Quia.com. You do not need to subscribe! Use the link
under “Students” to set up a free account. Search under my name to find my home
page. The link to my home page is: http://www.quia.com/profiles/lbrock84
Each class participant needs to determine their own study schedule. I would
strongly encourage you to study some material each week instead of trying to learn
it all right before the training.
Below is a schedule of activities designed to support your self-study.
