Medical Billing & Intro to Coding Program Part I This comprehensive course is designed to instruct the student in all aspects of the coding and billing process. Skills for the entire reimbursement cycle are: Verifying benefits and eligibility extracting information from a medical record, and conversion of documentation into billable codes will be covered in detail. The entire billing cycle is taught, including accurate claim form completion for the major types of payers. The processing and posting of explanation of benefits and insurance checks, instructions and techniques for the collection of monies due from the patient, compliance, electronic transaction security and software application are also discussed. Skills are validated by practical application exercises and the opportunity for a national certificate as a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist. A Certified Billing and Coding Specialist's (CBCS) job primarily focuses on ensuring accurate billing and reimbursement processes for medical services rendered by a physician or out-patient facility. A CBCS's duties may include the following: Understanding insurance company claim policies Assigning codes to each diagnosis and procedure Rely on information of medical terminology, anatomy and disease processes Understanding patient financial responsibility, and collection procedures Code patient medical records correctly to optimize reimbursement for medical services.
