is an online learning suite of integrated tools accessible anywhere
there is internet access. It can support student engagement,
collaboration, learning, and meaningful communication between individual teachers, students,
and parents. Each of your child’s classes is supported by an accompanying D2L course.
1. Login at http://www.cssd.ab.ca/bishopgrandin or dl.cssd.ab.ca.
2. ‘Select a course’ by clicking the dropdown at the top. Click the ‘Pin’ to
keep commonly used ones at
the top of your listing.
3. Courses may use more functionality than listed
below, but all D2L courses have common criteria
which will show uniquely depending on the needs
of the learning environment:

News - A welcome message with:
Teacher introduction
Tutorial/availability times
An indication of what tools are being used in the course
ii.
Grades - Transparent expectations, assessment, and progress:
Items marked and entered into D2L as soon as possible
Visible current overall calculated grade
Grade items with zeros provide
background and the potential for
reassessment.
Comment fields are used, where
appropriate, to provide descriptive
feedback.

Content - Resources to support learning:

Calgary Catholic School District manages a domain in Google, our
‘Learn Domain’. It is a suite of innovative online tools to compliment
D2L functionality and create even more opportunities for live
collaboration and communication. All staff and students have an
account.
1. In a web browser, sign in using your district credentials at http://learn.cssd.ab.ca

2. Some of the more commonly used tools and functionality include:
i.
Mail – Send and receive information, attachments etc.
Linked to tools within D2L.
Manages document sharing invitations and access
Use contacts groups for easy emailing, discussions, and sharing.
ii.
Google Docs - a file creation, saving, and sharing space
on ‘the cloud’.
- Create, edit, and share your documents without
a locally installed ‘Office’ productivity suite.
- Saves as you type – no more lost work.
- Available anywhere there is internet access.
- Replaces need for local and USB drives and local network drives.
- Store files of any type.
- Share files with others in the district with read only or edit permissions.
- Simultaneous Collaboration - Multiple individuals can edit a single document, at
the same time. Each user sees changes from all contributors, live on the screen.
A free Google Drive ‘app’ available for one’s own device(s)
Allows access offline when there is no internet access.
Use it to submit assessment items into D2L Dropboxes.
