D2L
D2L stands for Desire2Learn – a web-based
Learning Management System selected to
provide students, teachers and parents access
to course content, digital resources, calendar
events,
grades
and
other
online
communication tools. Our school district has
chosen it to become our main platform for
online communication between school and
home.
Accessing D2L
Locker
Course Information
A virtual Locker is available to store digital
files which can be accessed from any
computer with Internet access. The locker is
located in 2 locations, the top Navigation Bar
and the Welcome Box/My Settings.
Upon entering a Course, the Lower Navigation
Bar is connected to that course. Each Course
Home page will have its own News section
which may contain homework, test dates and
project timelines. On this navigation bar
students will also have access to various tools
which teachers may be using in their course.
Calendar/Events
By clicking on the
icon, a calendar will be
displayed. The Calendar can highlight
important school dates. (e.g. report card dates,
P/T interviews, PD days, holidays, field trips,
sporting events, Liturgies, and due dates for
tests and assignments)
D2L can be accessed at either of the following
http://dl.cssd.ab.ca or www.cssd.ab.ca (click
on Student Centre). Each student has a unique
Log On ID and Password which is meant to be
shared with parents or guardians only.
Difficulties with log on should be referred to
school administration.
The D2L School Home Page will contain a
Welcome Box, News, Calendar/Events, and
currently enrolled Courses. Individual courses
may be accessed by clicking on the Course

find general updates or special notices,
important to the Junior High school
community.

The course Content, located on the lower
Navigation Bar, will link to teacher provided
resources that support classroom learning.
Grades
D2L Additional Tools
The D2L Grades tool will be used consistently
across all junior high schools during the 20112012 school year. Junior high school teachers
will use the D2L online environment to
securely calculate, manage and share
assessment with students and parents. This
will allow students and parents to review
grades continually from home at any time
throughout the year.
Our Junior High AISI Project utilizes D2L to
support classroom instruction. A wide variety
of tools is available and will be explored
during this school year.
Teachers will now use a cumulative grading
model to generate report card grades for
students, which will be calculated on a
continual basis, always showing the most
current reflection of student performance.
Report cards will continue to be printed at
regular intervals throughout the year with
student grades while D2L Grades will provide
ongoing communication regarding student
progress.
