Further to the recent controversy regarding claims that some manufacturers, that use the
words UGG in their branding, allowed the inclusion of dog hair within their sheepskin boots, we
at Ugg Australia would like to convey our outrage and disappointment at such practices. We
strongly oppose the use of any canine hair in any product, especially the iconic Australian ugg
boot.
As an Australian company, who has maintained 100% Australian production of all products for
over 30 years, we endeavor to keeps jobs in Australia, and maintain the high level of
production for which Australians are well-known. We have intergrated the use of a stitched in
label, deep inside the boot, which displays that the skins are all processed in Australia and the
boots are manufactured 100% in Australia.
At Ugg Australia, we own the last remaining Australian sheepskin tannery, Roman Tannery,
located in Laverton, Victoria. We source all of our sheepskin from Australian sheep and tan
them ourselves, ensuring we adhere to the highest EPA standards, and continuously strive to
improve and innovate our manufacturing processes.
As an Australian manufacturer, we maintain the high standards set by the Australian
Environment Protection Agency (EPA) regarding: Commercial and industrial noise, industrial
waste treaters/ disposers, efficient transport, do not use banned or hazardous chemicals, and
are commited to a low Eco-footprint.
The Australian UGG boots has become one of the most famous Australian exports and tourist
gift items. We are disappointed to see many products that use mis-leading marketing to
convince the consumer that the product is Australia made. We urge retailers and consumers to
seek knowledge about the products before making a purchase. We recommend consumers to
look for the stitched in care-label, inside the boot, denoting the country of origin and material
used.
