The Position:
The Director of Global Data Intelligence (GDI) is part of the Processes & Systems HQ
organization and directs all aspects of Master Data Management, Corporate Data
Warehousing, Corporate Reporting Portfolio and Data Quality assurance in Volvo CE.
He/she provides vision and expertise on the Enterprise Information Model & Data
Architecture and all corresponding data models throughout the organization in support of
enterprise integration, solutions architecture, enterprise reporting and Business
Intelligence initiatives, with a clear line of sight to achieving the business goals. The GDI
Director designs, directs and implements the Master Data Management program, the
Corporate Data Warehouse and standardizes the Corporate Reporting to ensure crosssystem data consistency and helping integrate business processes across the extended
value chain and enable foundation for enterprise services and business process
management.
The GDI Director is a key contributor to the development of the Fit For the Future strategy
instrumental in delivering company wide standardized Data Intelligence/Reporting
solutions and common IS/IT systems.
Key responsibilities:
•
Define and coordinate global improvement initiatives related to standardization of
Master Data, Corporate Reporting Portfolio and Data Quality with the activities of Volvo
CE Process Areas in the global Volvo CE geography.
•
Create the Enterprise Master Data Management model, the Enterprise Data
Warehouse and Data Architecture roadmap to ensure alignment and integration of
Enterprise Master Data across the various applications.
•
Work with a variety of information, data management and business professionals at
different levels of expertise in establishing collaboration, content management, data
consolidation, information delivery and data re-use strategies.

Deliver and support an Enterprise Information Model comprised of both Commercial
packages logical data model components and internally developed models
•
This position works with the Data Integration domain and will work individually and as
part of an initiative team to achieve the end-state architected solutions throughout the
enterprise.
•
Ensure central control of Master Data to support companywide quality standards and
procedures, including enablement of consistent data maintenance and distribution to
ensure Master Data harmonization
•
Define, propose, implement and promote Master Data Management and Data
Warehouse project activities
•
Define and manage the necessary initiatives/projects to ensure on-time/on-budget
delivery regarding the plans, timing, funding, procedures for accomplishing projects,
staffing requirements, balancing the available departmental resources to various
phases of project. Identify and schedule project deliverables, milestones, and required
tasks with internal Volvo CE, Volvo IT and 3rd parties
•
Perform the standard project progress reporting and documentation for the Executive
management.
Experience and qualifications:
•
Extensive professional experience in all components of the Global Data Intelligence
area. Experience in associated areas and of senior management roles will be an
advantage.
•
The position requires a full mastering of and a technical understanding of key aspects
of current Enterprise Integration, Master Data Management, Metadata, Data
Warehouse, Data Quality assurance, Reporting & BI product suites.
•
The position requires expertise and leadership in the Master Data Management
disciplines as Data Governance, Data Quality and Master Data –
Customer/Product/Supplier Data Integration and Data Integration Architectures.
•
Experience of design and implementation of best practice processes and IS/IT
environments.
•
Considerable experience of team management including team building and team
loyalty.
•
Skilled in defining IS/IT systems specifications and evaluating the same, working with
Business representation of all Process Areas across the globe.
•
Fluent in written and spoken English, a good knowledge of at least one other language
is an advantage.
•
Experience of living and working in more than one country/culture is preferable.
•
The successful candidate will most likely be qualified to MS or MBA level.

Knowledge, skills, abilities:
•
Strong knowledge and understanding of Master Data Management and Data
Warehouses
•
Strong capability to develop Master Data Management data architecture strategies and
interrelated tactical solutions.
•
Develop common data definitions and leverage current metadata investment to map
Enterprise Information Model across enterprise systems
•
Ability to engage numerous data architecture related initiatives to guide requirements,
development of solution, and provide necessary oversight for conformance with
architectural standards
•
Supports Development of data architecture recommendations in support of Enterprise
objectives
•
Make recommendations on the data architecture, tool suites, and processes for
continuous improvement and conduct TCO analysis and develops alternative data
architectural options for consideration
•
Proven project management skills with ability to multitask and manage multiple
medium to large projects in a cross-functional environment
•
Good experience of change management – systematic, structural and conceptual, fully
familiar with methods and tools for managing the change.
•
Good and persuasive communicator. Get buy-in.
•
Open-minded with the competence and experience to listen to and evaluate input from
the Business Process Areas in all Regions in the Volvo CE group.
•
Training and teaching abilities are an advantage.
•
Analytical from a holistic viewpoint but with an eye for detail.
•
Motivated and determined to reach agreed goals.
•
Proven people management skills and experience and supplier management.
•
Multi-cultural awareness and ability to build and work with international networks.
•
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, matrix environment.
•
The work will be carried out, to a large extent, at the various entities of the Process
Areas and may therefore involve regular traveling.
•
Requirements: BI & Reporting Tools (Business Objects, Hyperion), Data Quality Tools,
Metadata Tools, Master Data Management concepts and architectures,
Customer/Product Data/Supplier Integration Data Load (ETL) XML Research &
Analysis Methodologies, Windows/Unix DBMS (SAP BW/BI, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2)

Job Requirements: 15+ years of IS/IT experience required. 10+ years experience in
Data Architecture in either Enterprise Architecture, Data Warehousing, BI/Reporting or
Master Data Management
