Advanced Placement Environmental Science (APES) 2015-2016 Summer Assignment Thank you for signing up to take APES! I am looking forward to a great year filled with excellent discussions about the environment, our impact, and what we can do to live more sustainably! You will learn a tremendous amount of information this year, and hopefully you will soon realize that environmental science is everywhere! If you have chosen to take this class it is because you are interested in learning about environmental issues, and you are committed to working diligently this year. You also meet the prerequisites: 3.4 GPA or better, C or better in chemistry, and are willing to put in 4 to 6 hours of work each week. - Mrs. Anguiano Summer Assignment 1. Set-up your Notebook: In large dark writing, write your name, period, and the course title on the cover of a 3-5 subject spiral bound notebook. Number your notebook pages on the bottom right hand corners (right pages are odd numbers, left hand pages are even numbers). Save the first two pages for the table of contents. Your table of contents pages should be titled at the top and then have three columns for Date, Assignment, and Page number. On page 3, 4, and 5 glue/draw in the quiz-homework charts (3). On page 6 glue/copy in the Scientific Notation sheet. You will be starting chapter 1 on the 7th page. See examples below. I will be checking your notebook set up during the first notebook check. All of your chapter questions will be started on right hand (odd number) pages but may continue onto left hand pages. 5. 6. Check out a book. Chapter Homework: Writing down notes while reading your book will help you to be more successful in class and better prepared for tests. You should write your notes in Cornel style. For information on how to take good notes watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ey3jZYa3xw&feature=youtu.be. These are YOUR notes; I will not be checking them. You should include them in your table of contents as I will be checking for organization. What I will be checking is that you have answered the “essential questions” from each chapter and made the flashcards of the important terms, case studies and laws for each chapter. Place these flashcards on a large metal ring or in a box. This is a fast paced class therefore you are encouraged to work ahead whenever possible and not wait for due dates. Chapter 1 will be due the first week of school. Please complete the chapter questions and flashcards which are posted on Edmodo.
