MAKING HISTORY statement
Making History is an all-inclusive open call exhibition surveying the
Bushwick art scene and celebrating one of the most concentrated and
diverse artist communities worldwide. Curators Krista Saunders Senna of
Ground Floor Gallery, and Dexter Wimberly of Independent Curators
International, have taken on the challenge of creating cohesive visual
narratives out of this pluralistic collection of works. The exhibition will be
documented with a first-of-its-kind book including critical essays by
prominent writers.
The title of the exhibition was inspired by Loren Munk's manifesto History
by Exclusion, Illuminating the “Dark Matter” of the Art World, 2006. The
exhibition explores an inclusive model of history and is the first in a series
of events that AIB plans to produce on that theme, throughout the entire
Bushwick community, in celebration of its 10th Anniversary.
Participating artists include:

Hitchcock, Rob de Oude, Lisa Levy, Julie Torres, Ben Godward, Kate
Teale, Brian Novatny, Enrico Gomez, Oriane Stender, Matt Fisher, Ryan
Dewalt, Nao Matsumoto, Linda Herritt, Catherine Kirkpatrick, Will Hutnick,
Gary Petersen, Ruth Hardinger and Deborah Brown.

AIB 2015 BENEFIT
On May 10, the AIB 2015 Benefit will be held at Storefront Ten Eyck, and
all artworks included in Making History will be raffled. Proceeds of the
event will fund the production of Arts in Bushwick's 10th anniversary
book and year-round community and educational activities. The night will
boast a full bar and hors d’oeuvres, and will be emceed by Lisa Levy, local
artist and self-proclaimed psychotherapist, and artist Ben Boothby.
Beginning April 15, tickets for the raffle will be for sale at the gallery and
online at artsinbushwick.org/events/makinghistoryexhibition.
AIB/BOS ANNUAL PRINT
The 2015 AIB/BOS team is proud to announce the annual limited edition
prints, featuring works of the renowned artists Meryl Meisler and Rico
Gatson. Meisler's documentary photographs of the neighborhood date
back to the seventies, when she was a public school art teacher in
Bushwick, and Gatson has been living and working in Bushwick for over
eleven years. Printing services are being donated by Rayographix.
