Newport PTSA General Meeting Minutes - March 18 , 2016 Meeting called to order by PTSA president Julie Freeman Quorum present February Minutes approved as presented . Motion by Sonia Misra , 2nded by Suzy Dalton Program Development Committee PDC : Julie Freeman briefed the members about PDC and its role . Julie invited the interested members to PDC , and they can contact Rooneyj@bsd405.org . Nominating Committee For 2015 / 2016 : Lisa Snyder-Stone presented the Nominating Committee report . Julie Freeman will continue as President . Lisa Snyder-Stone’s name was proposed for Vice President as Sonia Misra declined to continue . Gareth Beale will take up the role of main Treasurer , those interested for the post of Co Treasurer can contact Lisa Snyder Stone . Garima Kango joined as Secretary . Lisa Snyder-Stone presented the nominations and it will be published on website in 15 days and emailed out to membership. Bellevue School Foundation Luncheon : Lisa Weber informed the members about the BSD Lunch on April 24 at Hyatt between 11.30 to 1.30 pm . It will be attended by the group of 10 members comprising of Principal , two board members , teachers and parents . These people will represent Newport . Those interested can contact Lisa at xenica4064@live.com . The lunch is free and one can donate to the BSD. Principal Dion Yahoudy : Principal Dion Yahoudy informed the members about the High School Start - Time Committee . This committee is a joint effort of two districts Mercer Island and Bellevue School District . Both parents and teachers are members of this committee . They are conducting a study on the impact of change in High School Start Time . Parents can give their viewpoint on this issue . Principal Dion informed that a survey was conducted on 100 high school students on change in start time and to our surprise most of them concluded it does not matter to them . Speaker : Jeff Mason , Department Head WANIC and CTE Courses Jeff Mason was the speaker for the night . He informed the members about the WANIC and CTE courses that are offered in Newport high school . Four WANIC courses that are offered in the campus are Culinary Arts , Teaching Academy , CISCO and Media production . These courses provide students hands on experience and give them a chance to have a feel of the profession they want to pursue . For example Selena,a student from Teaching Academy shared her hands on experience of teaching in Clyde Hill Elementary school . She taught second grade students . She concluded that the internship helped her to practically know the profession she is interested in and it was a great experience. Students can earn college credits by pursuing any of these courses .
