Based in South Australia, AIB offers business undergraduate, postgraduate and research qualifications through its local Adelaide campus, through Distance Learning, and through its network of international teaching centres. In addition to a BBA and MBA, it is distinctive in the nation’s private sector in having the authority to award postgraduate research degrees in business and management, including a Master of Management (MMgt), Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). As well as living across Australia, many of our research degree candidates are internationally located and use is made of various means of communication to keep in regular contact. The Institute has a particular interest in various aspects of work-applied research—using the qualitative methodologies of action research, case research and reflective practice. In line with this orientation, the Institute’s strapline is ‘the practical business school’. Our research degree candidates are invariably experienced managers and this is reflected in their research topics. The Institute also produces its own journal (AIB Journal of Applied Management) and encourages student as well as faculty publications. AIB wishes to see its faculty increase the number of publications in the wider academic community. These new appointments will support this initiative. Key Duties and Responsibilities The candidate will be required to: o work closely with the research team, including the Dean, Professors and Research Fellows; o contribute to maintaining a research culture at AIB; o undertake work-applied research projects that fit with the practical nature of AIB’s research focus, using action research, case research and/or reflective practice; o publish an average of at least two papers per year in recognized academic journals; Page 1 of 2 o present papers at research conferences; o provide postgraduate research supervision, including the ability to supervise in one or more areas of action research, case research and reflective practice; o participating in research activities (including seminars) at the Institute; o contribute to the delivery and development of workshops for research higher degree candidates, supervisor development, staff development and others as required; o identifying and pursuing sources of external funding for research projects; o undertake other responsibilities as directed by the Dean; AIB is a growing organization and candidates should be prepared to contribute to new activities as they emerge. Person Specification We are looking for ambitious, hard-working candidates who have aspirations for an academic career. Priority will be given to applicants that have experience in, or knowledge of, action research and/or action learning methodology. Essential Criteria: o a PhD in a business-related discipline that is relevant to the work of AIB; o demonstrated ability to conduct research in a business-related discipline; o interest in, and willingness to undertake, action research and work applied learning projects; o experience in working in a business environment; o experience in qualitative methods, in particular, knowledge of one or more of action research, case research and reflective practice; o a proven publishing track record; o evidence of self-motivation as well as an aptitude for teamwork; o a high standard of written and spoken English; o proven ability to achieve objectives and meet deadlines; o excellent organisational and time management skills; o a positive attitude; Desirable Criteria: o senior management and/or professional experience; o experience in the Australian University sector; o experience in attracting external, non-government, funding; Working Relationships The appointee is immediately responsible to the Dean, Professor Carol Tilt, or her delegate.
