Duke Redshirt Freshman Zach Finesilver
Named RMHC Athlete of the Week
February 3, 2016
DURHAM, N.C.—Duke redshirt freshman Zach Finesilver was named the
Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week
following a pair of victories that helped the Blue Devils to a 2-0 weekend in
the nation’s capital. Finesilver totaled seven points overall in the two
matches.
In his opening match Sunday against Columbia’s Sam Ward, Finesilver
scored four points for the Blue Devils with an 8-0 major decision as Duke
edged the Lions 19-16. The extra point from Finesilver was instrumental in
helping the Blue Devils secure the victory.
He followed that with a 5-1 decision over American’s Tyler Scotton as
Duke upended host American 23-13. The win was his third straight and
pushed his dual record to 6-3 on the year. Finesilver is 18-9 overall on the
year and is 5-2 in his past seven outings. He ranks third on the team in
dual points with 22 for the year.
The Blue Devils, ranked 24th in the latest InterMat poll, are 4-5 overall and
riding a three-match win streak heading into a midweek bout with
Gardner-Webb. Duke looks to stop a red-hot Runnin’ Bulldogs squad
Wednesday, Feb. 3. Opening match is set for 7 p.m.
