GRADUATION SPEECH- STUDENT COUNCIL As student council president, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the teachers, parents, family, and friends, here today. We, the class of 2012, would not have come this far without your continuous support and encouragement. Thank you for everything you do. Today, as is tradition of the student council president, I am going to tell you about the accomplishments that student council has made this year. The year began with our "Under the Sea" homecoming festivities. The parade was great, the football game intense, and the dance was a fun time for all. The car decorating contest, Swamp my Ride, was also a huge success with the winning cars being displayed at the homecoming game. Following this was our annual Student Council Blood Drive in which we set a District 155 and CLS record with 173 units of blood donated. This was a huge accomplishment in which the entire student council worked together to achieve. After this great success, student council raised funds for UNICEF, an organization working in over 150 countries to give children the basics for a healthy, safe, and educated, childhood. We raised over $200 which provided 800 children with safe water. In addition to this charity work, the student council is also a sponsor for Adopt-a-Highway. We have adopted a portion of Route 14 where we regularly conduct cleanups of our designated mile. The next event that student council ran was the CLS Variety Show in which students had the chance to showcase their many talents. Around the holidays, students and staff at CLS also had the opportunity to write cards to soldiers deployed overseas. This was a chance for the Crystal Lake South community to show that we care and appreciate the soldiers efforts and sacrifices. The student council also held a candy cane gram delivery where students wished friends a Happy Holiday. This helped to raise funds for our Turnabout dance with the theme of '2012'. This week was matched with heavy competition between each class with the 'Deck the Halls' event and the Pep Rally Dodge ball tournament. In the end, the dance was great and the decorations were amazing. Then, the student council decided to host yet another blood drive. We collected a total of 153 units. Therefore, the grand total of blood units collected by student council this year reached over 300. It is an understatement to say that the student council started and ended the year with a bang. To conclude, I would like to thank Mr. Altmann, the student council advisor, for being a great role model and a wonderful advisor. A huge thanks my fellow student council officers; Mia Balasi (Vice President), Hannah Atkinson (Secretary), and John Baik (Treasurer). We worked as a team and formed great friendships. Finally, I would like to address the faculty and the Class of 2012 for the final time as student council president. Thank you for a great year and good luck with your future endeavors. Congratulations Graduates.
