Under “授業” in the schedule
文法ディスカッション:You’re expected to bring the completed 文法シート sheet to the assigned class to share
and discuss in class.
練習:You’re assigned to practice the basic exercises from the Genki textbook (under “practice” section) that is
assigned for that day with audio files and the textbook. You’re asked to do more application exercises with
comprehensive contexts. Your overall performance will be accounted for the daily grade. Note taking is not
prohibited but not encouraged for this class, as most of them are already in the textbook.
会話:You’re assigned to understand the dialogue, practice until you memorize it, and think of
variation/extension/expansion of the dialogue, before coming to the class. Also, make up some questions on the
given dialogue which prepare you better for the 会話 Q&A on the dialogue. We’ll ask each other the questions on
the dialogue before the quiz.
ドリル:You’re assigned to practice the basic exercises from the Genki textbook (under “practice” section) that is
assigned for that day with audio files and the textbook. This task is to reinforce the basic grammar exercises.
Unless you can master the basic conjugation, the further exercises will become more challenging. It will be a paired
work.

朗読: This task is to reinforce the basic reading skill by practicing reading such a storyteller in the textbook.
Additional reading exercises are available in Collab-resources for the 朗読 day.
読み書き:You’re assigned to practice reading, answer questions in the textbook before coming to the class so that
you can share and discuss in class. Additional reading exercises are available in Collab-resources for the extra
reading day, 読み書き2 for you to complete before the extra reading class.
読み物チェック:These tasks are for students to see the mastery of the basic reading/writing skills and functions
learned in the chapter. You’ll complete some of the task in 5 minutes in class.
単語小テスト1: Hear the words in Japanese and write the meaning of the words in English. All vocabularies in
the 単語リスト will be covered.
単語小テスト2:Read the kanji-words listed in the vocabulary list for the chapter and write the meaning of the
words in English.
会話 Q&A:You take this quiz along with the 単語小テスト2. You’ll hear 2-3 content questions on the Genki
dialogue in Japanese and you write your answer in Japanese.
漢字小テスト:You have to be able to read and write all the learned kanji from the previous chapters, including
the “Vocabulary with Kanji” list from J1010. For the new chapter, only the highlighted words are covered in the
quiz. In the kanji quiz, the words (to write kanji for the word or to write the reading of the kanji word) appear in
sentences. The sentences are usually targeted the content of the reading passages and/or the chapter theme.
試験: There are 3 (mid-term) tests, L19&20, L21, L22&23 and 1 review test at the end of the semester. The format
will be announced later.

THE GIVEN ASSIGNMENT IS DUE THAT DAY!!
文法シート:The grammar sheet is in Collab-Resources. You’re expected to complete the sheet (as much as you
can) and bring it to the assigned class.
WBG (Workbook-Grammar):You turn in for grade and no redo unless instructed otherwise as “R.” The
instructor might point out the errors underlined in red, and ask you to make corrections.
WBL (Workbook-Listening) : Complete it with the audio file or in the lab. All answers have to be in English.
WBK (Workbook-Kanji) : If you get “R,” make sure to have your instructor check your kanji again before the
kanji quiz. Make sure to practice using a “writing practice sheet” in the “review” file in Collab.
作文・書く練習:The assigned topic is in the textbook unless directed otherwise. The first draft should be typed.
The final draft should be submitted with the typed first draft. The length of the assignment is specified in the
schedule. You should make your best efforts to review or revise or go over the drafts before the submission. Below
is the sample codes used in the instructor’s feedback. After you receive the correction of the final draft, you make
corrections as indicated before the due date. Read carefully the “作文について” file in Collab. Incompletion of this
will affect your grade negatively.
復習シート: You will find the review sheet in the Collab. This gives the class to review the materials covered,
share their own answers, and ask the instructor questions. The more variations of the answers we can share in class
the better.
