John Muir, of course, is the namesake UC San Diego's John Muir College (as a Muir College alumnus, Robinson earned both his BA and PhD degrees from UCSD). Robinson's longtime interest in the famed environmentalist includes treks into the Sierra to follow Muir's trail. Speaking from the point of view of a science fiction writer who often speculates about the future, Robinson provides provocative perspectives on Muir's life, work, and especially his activism and impressive impact on public policy. Robinson's lecture is the first in a 2014‐2015 Environments in Motion series that will cover topics such as global warming, genetically modified foods, environmental justice, local food production, and California's water supply.
