Special Note from the Administration
Hello Parents/Guardians & Students,
As we approach the last few weeks in this school year, the calendar seems
to be jam packed with items. All upcoming events are posted on our school
website at http://www.sheridantechnicalhighschool.com. In April students
participated in the Florida State Assessments (FSA) English Language Arts
(ELA) Reading test on April 27th and 28th. May brings us the End of Course
(EOC) exams for students who are currently taking Algebra 1, Geometry,
and Biology. All Algebra 2 students, whether they took the course in first or
second semester, will take the EOC in May. Also in May, students will take
their Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geography exam. It is very important that students get a good night sleep prior to the testing date and eat
a good breakfast so that they can mentally tackle the questions posed on
the exam. See below for dates and times:

Virtual School Options (Flyer)
To help the students celebrate all of their successes we will be having an Awards Night on May 27th in
the Cafeteria/Auditorium from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Students are being recognized from each individual
teacher on multiple criteria and those students who are recognized will be invited to the event, along with
their parents/guardians.
Please review the information regarding virtual school options that can be found on the Sheridan Technical HS website under the News & Events section. Students are afforded the opportunity to take online
courses through both Broward Virtual School and Florida Virtual School. This option is useful to those students whose grades need improvement. See p. 9 for more information.

SGA Officers Attend BCASC
SGA officers attended the Broward County
Association of Student Councils Convention (BCASC) at Pompano Beach High
School, Friday, April 24th. Students attended multiple workshops where they learned
about projects other schools have done
successfully, as well as strategies for more
effective planning of projects. Jade Scotland was selected as representative for the
Student Advisory Board for our Innovation
Zone.
The Joe DiMaggio
Glove Challenge benefits the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. SGA's around the
district
sold
these
gloves for a minimum
$1 donation.
The Sheridan Technical SGA chose to challenge
Cypress Bay High School in a David vs. Goliath
effort. Our members raised enough school spirit
and money to achieve a 150% participation rate.
We believe this was enough to beat Cypress Bay.
We’ll find out for sure in the fall!
SGA Officers Will Attend Summer Leadership Camp
SGA’s four officers will be attending the South
Florida Leadership Training Camp held at Nova Southeastern University, July 2015. They
will be participating in a variety of activities that
will prepare them to lead our Sheridan Tech
Wolves next year.

English I Honors: Romeo & Juliet
Take a Twist!
After reading Act II of Romeo and Juliet, students

turning point in the play. Using Inspiration software they created alternate timelines of events for
Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers, heightening
the drama with unexpected twists and turns.

participated in the delicious event. Students were given access to multiple pantry items and,
without a recipe, created all types of soups. They ranged from broths to creamy soups,

Counselor’s Corner: A message from Felicia
Rattray, our new 9th grade School Counselor
To the STHS parents and
students:
It is with great honor and
enthusiasm that I have accepted the position of 9th
grade School Counselor at
Sheridan Technical High
School. As the School Counselor, I will work diligently in assisting our students’ transition from one
grade level to the next; addressing their personal,
social and academic needs professionally and with
care. In partnership with the STHS parents, we
can provide our students with the challenges and
support they need to reach and attain higher goals.
In partnership with our students, we can accept the
challenges of growing and learning as each student transitions into higher academic achievement
and maturity.
I look forward to developing these partnerships
with each of you now and in the years to come.
I have served as an educator and school counselor
for the past eight years. During those years, I
have worked with a diverse population of students
in developing graduation plans, academic success
plans and personal development plans. I have a
strong passion for helping youths identify and overcome challenges, as well as assisting them in taking ownership of their actions. I have co-authored
two published self-help books and I have conducted seminars and workshops that have been presented throughout the United States and abroad.
Lastly, I am a Persian Gulf War Veteran with 5
years’ experience in the United States Army.
Again, it is with great honor that I am serving in the
role of 9th grade School Counselor and I look forward to working with each of you.

“Battle of the Books”
“Battle of the Books,” a district wide academic
competition, held on April 10th at South Plantation High, was based on the 15 Florida ‘Teens
Read’ award winning books!
Questions on each
of the 15 books
were statements
or quotes from the
books, with the answers being the
TITLE of the book. Teams had 10 seconds to
collaborate and decide on their answer. Team
captains would then reveal their final answer.
Congratulations to our STHS Battle of the
Books - Teens Read members: Kristin O.,
Coach Rivera, Shelby J., Aisha A., Vivianna T.
and Zhane C.
Our STHS team competed against peers
from 8 other high
schools and placed
4th!
STHS also congratulates Atlantic Technical for
placing first, with Hollywood Hills and Taravella
High Schools placing 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
The “battle” was a fun way to do what these students love to do - READ - and participate in
healthy competition against their peers. Looking
forward to reading next year’s award winning
books and expanding our team!
Educationally Yours,
Felicia A. Rattray
