The test will be in two parts: 30 multiple-choice questions and an essay (30 marks) on a topic of your choice. Total value: 60 marks.
Good luck in preparing for the test!
Scantron Questions
Part I– Character Descriptions (#1-15)
Review pertinent details of all of the characters in the play, including the minor ones. Any online summary should be a good review. Most of the descriptions focus on the major characters, and some characters may be referred to more than once.
You will be given a selection of characters to choose from.
Part II– Character Quotes (#16-24)
Review pertinent passages from the play, especially Hamlet’s soliloquies and the following scenes: I, iii; I, iv; I, v; II, ii; III, i; III, iv; IV, v; V, ii. Some quotes may be repeated from our quizzes; some will be new. You will be given a selection of characters to choose from.
Part III – Multiple Choice (#25-30)
As always, you will be asked to choose the best answer.
Part IV – Essay (30 marks)
You may come to class with a prepared outline, goal(s) for writing, and quotes
(include Act, scene, and line numbers) but NOT a full draft. Refer to the sample literary analysis essay outline posted on the wiki as a guideline.
Once you have completed the Scantron portion of the test, start writing your essay in blue or black pen. You may use a classroom dictionary or thesaurus as needed
(no phones). As always, aim to write with clarity, confidence, depth, and passion!
