Review for English 11 Final Exam Exam Format (60 marks): Part I (10 multiple choice questions): Language Skills Read a paragraph and choose the correct answer based on punctuation, verb tense, etc. Review apostrophe usage AND rules for writing dialogue. ◦ Example for dialogue: ▪ Thomas said, "Hey, Ms. Braun!" ▪ "Yes?" she replied ▪ "I have a question," he said looking at his notes. "What's on the exam?" Part II (10 multiple choice questions): Non-Fiction Read a passage, and choose the best answer. Questions will be based on meaning, literary devices, etc. Part III (8 multiple choice questions, 1 short essay = 12 marks): Poem Short essay: ◦ not a 5-paragraph essay; 1-2 paragraphs. ◦ use quotes - to get a top mark, review how to integrate quotes. ◦ review literary devices. ◦ marked according to the Senior English Writing rubric. ◦ challenging. Part IV (8 multiple choice questions, 1 short essay = 12 marks): Fiction ◦ see advice for poetry section. ◦ Difference: you can choose your topic for the essay. Tips for Preparing for the Exam: 1. Review literary devices. 2. Review how to integrate quotes. 3. Review grammar (e.g. semicolon usage, apostrophe usage, etc.) 4. Reflect on your skills as a writer. What are you good at? What do you need to edit for? Examples: "I am good at analyzing literature and using quotes to support my ideas, but I tend to make careless punctuation errors and run out of time. I will budget my time wisely, and triplecheck for errors." 5. Get a good night's sleep, eat a good breakfast, come to the exam NO LATER than 8:15 on Monday, June 17.
