In October 2005, the College embarked upon the CRISP Customer Service

Initiative recognizing that our continued success is directly dependent on the satisfaction of our customers with the quality of service we provide. All new, non-faculty employees will participate in CRISP customer service training.

CRISP training consists of three sessions over three consecutive weeks.

Employees are required to attend all three sessions in order to complete the training.

Generations at Work

We now have more generations actively working than ever before in history. The veterans forming the “Builder

Generation” are not ready to call it quits, and the baby boomers have not reached retirement age. Gen X is beginning to take charge, and Gen Y is poised to make an impression on the business world of tomorrow. With each generation bringing its own values and motivations, it is important for a manager to know how to manage this diverse team.

Participants in this workshop will learn more about the five generations in the workplace, how perceptions change, the 24 factors of one’s personality, how generations view objectives and authority, how to bridge the gap, how to lead a multi-generational team to success, and how to overcome the fears of the generations.

Macomb Online Instructor Training

Certification Course (MOITC)

To teach online courses at Macomb, successful completion of this course is required.

This six-week (6) online course is designed to provide the requisite training for faculty seeking to facilitate hybrid and/or online courses at Macomb. This course is intended for faculty members who will be teaching an online or hybrid course within the next three (3) months and have 15 to 20 hours per week available to complete the required coursework. In this course, you will learn the pedagogical and technical principles required to facilitate an effective online course. If you are interested in registering for this course, please contact your Associate

Dean or Director for approval. Once you have received the required approval, please use the following link to register for this course. (Registration is limited to 15 participants per session and confirmation of your registration is contingent upon your Associate Dean or Director’s approval.)

Definitions

Online courses: Classes where all teaching and learning takes place in virtual classrooms (online instruction).

Hybrid courses: A significant amount of instruction and student engagement occurs in a virtual (online) environment with some meetings on campus; also known as “blended” courses.

Web-enhanced courses: Courses that meet in traditional “on-ground” classrooms with instruction and student engagement supported through an online learning management system (ANGEL).

ANGEL Getting Started

Successful completion of this workshop, resulting in certification, is required in order to web-enhance classes.

In this three hour, face-to-face introductory session, you will use ANGEL 7.4 to work in your own ANGEL course site to upload a First Day Handout, create an organizational framework for assignments and notes, and upload instructional material for students. You will also set up your initial ANGEL gradebook … one of ANGEL’s most popular features! This session is designed for faculty members who have not yet used ANGEL, but we often see “veteran ANGEL users” who just would like a refresher. All faculty are welcome! Pre-registration is required for this workshop and completion of the ANGEL tutorials are strongly recommended before attending this workshop. ( Registration is limited to eight (8) participants per session .)

You may not realize it, but these little wonders have a number of educational applications, including putting them in the hands of your students for group projects and presentations! Discover how to create a simple PowerPoint presentation with this two hour hands-on workshop. Because of its organized and visually appealing form to audiences,

PowerPoint has become a common technology tool to supplement teaching in the classroom and online. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to create basic slides (title and bulleted slides) while integrating graphic elements such as ClipArt.

Makeover

We’ve taken the best of our MS Word and PowerPoint workshops and condensed them into one makeover session! Whether you consider yourself a novice user or an old pro, you’ll find value in this session. We’ll cover strategies for “working smart” with MS Word by using styles, tables, templates and short-cuts to save time. We’ll look at good and not-so-good PowerPoint presentations and show you how to create presentations that communicate a clear message. Bring your Word and

PowerPoint files (in digital format) and we’ll help you give them a makeover.

PowerPoint Advanced

Go beyond the basics to add punch to your presentations.

In this two hour, hands-on workshop, we’ll explore master views to create a clean consistent look throughout your presentation. Also, we’ll explore using templates, color schemes, backgrounds, transitional effects, and various multimedia to convey messages more effectively.

(Prerequisite: PowerPoint Basics, or comfortable working with the toolbars, views, and layouts in PowerPoint)

Effective presentations are relatively free of “bullets” and use simple but interesting animations and other visual elements. Bring a PowerPoint presentation or two that you’d like to make more interesting and let Sean work with you on enhancing its visual appeal. Streamlined Files for the Internet

The Internet can seem like a vast storehouse of information, but the size of files available on the Internet need not be huge. In fact, your documents and photos will download more quickly if they are small files. In this workshop we’ll show you several ways to reduce the size of your PowerPoint files, image files, and much more.

We’ll also discuss alternative file types and delivery options. Though all are welcome to attend, this workshop is especially important for faculty using ANGEL to distribute course material.

TurningPoint Extreme

We’ve designed a new TurningPoint workshop for advanced users! This hands-on workshop will introduce you to team-based activities and Jeopardy-like sessions and show you how to track student responses and retain student data in reports. You’ll also see how to change the

TurningPoint toolbar and other “look-and-feel” features as well as how to run a TurningPoint session without taking the time to start up PowerPoint.
