Notes from Nursing Resources for You and Your Children As this school year comes to a close, I thought I would share some resources with you to prepare your children for school in the fall. Macomb County Health Department Hearing and Vision Program - 586-412-5945 If your child has difficulties seeing or hearing, then they may have difficulty learning. Dental Services - 586-465-9152 If your child does not have dental insurance or is Medicaid eligible, they may meet the qualifications for dental services. They provide low-cost, high quality full range of dental services. Immunization Clinic - 586-465-8537 The State of Michigan and the Macomb County Immunization Ordinance requires children to be adequately immunized to start and remain in school. Bring your child’s immunization record with you to your doctor appointment or Health department clinic. Local Pharmacies now carry vaccines for children and adults. MI-Child-Healthy KIDS 586-469-5492 MICHILD is a low-cost health coverage program for children under age 19. Healthy KIDS is a free health coverage program for children under 19 yrs. and pregnant women of any age. You can apply on-line: www.healthcare4MI.com or call: 1-888988-6300. Language services are available free of charge. Children’s Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) is a program within the Michigan Department of Community Health. It is for children with special health care needs or chronic health problems. The child’s medical condition determines whether they qualify for the program. Call: 1-800-359-3722. United Way 2-1-1 This is a free, easy-to-remember number that connects people with resources that can improve their lives. The 2-1-1 call specialists are available 24/7 and provide information about a wide variety of services - including health care, job training, child care, and mortgage foreclosure assistance. Macomb Community Action South Center Emergency support and referral services. Call 586-759-9150 Continuum of Care Supports those in danger of becoming homeless. 586-783-0916 Macomb Food Program Residents with urgent need are provided with food. 586-469-6004. Assistance available for Chaldean Refugees Arab American and Chaldean Council provides job assistance and social services, including child care and mental health programs. Chaldean Community Foundation and St. John Health’s Eastwood Clinics. Provide free mental health and family counseling services for uninsured and underinsured people. Translation help available, call: 248-288-9333. Free Clinics in Macomb County Neighbors Caring for Neighbors Clinic have two free clinics in the area that provide medical & prescription services.
