Academic dishonesty in an online environment could involve:
 Having a tutor or friend complete a portion of your assignments
 Having a reviewer make extensive revisions to an assignment
 Copying work submitted by another person to a public class meeting
 Turning in assignments that are similar to another’s assignment in the course
 Using information from online information services without proper citation
For additional information, please refer to Macomb’s policies on the Integrity of Academic Work:
http://www.macomb.edu/about-macomb/college-policies/institutional/college-rules.html
ADA Compliance
Every effort is made to be aware of and implement accessible course content for ADA compliance. See Macomb’s Special

Confidentiality and Proprietary Information
One of the cornerstones of an online learning community is the practical application of theoretical concepts. We encourage you
to share your personal and professional experiences. However, we are all bound by confidentiality. To ensure free and open
discussion we ask you to respect the confidentiality of the information that is shared, while exercising good judgment in what
you choose to share, avoiding non-public or sensitive information. Please refrain from sharing any proprietary, confidential,
organizationally-sensitive, or protected trade secrets information. The safest way to share your experiences is to ensure the
organizations and/or individuals are not identified.

Guidelines for a Successful Learning Experience
1. Successful learners in a college course are active and contribute. This means attending regularly, and completing your
assignments in a timely manner. The greatest learning emerges when you are actively engaged with others in the learning
process.
2. Model the behavior you’d like others to emulate; be an active, engaged learner who completes their assignments on-time,
asks for help when needed and treats everyone with respect. We are all teachers and learners who have much to learn from
one another. There are no “experts.” We are working together and learning from one another.
3. Practice good netiquette (network etiquette). Core Rules of Netiquette: http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html
4. An important foundation for building solid learning communities is to get to know your peers. Each person has unique
perspectives and experiences that can expand our thinking. Make sure you take time to respond to different peers rather
than limit yourself to those you know. Moving beyond your comfort zone will enhance your learning and network of peers
well beyond this course.
5. To succeed, be sure to block enough time to complete each week’s assignments. It is difficult to “catch up” once you have
fallen behind schedule…and I certainly don’t want you to subject yourself to any unnecessary stress. 
6. Since learning takes place in real-life, like you, I face many everyday life challenges. Given the interdependence of learning in
a college course, you are required to submit assignments when they are due. Handing in assignments after a topic has been
covered hinders the class and impacts everyone’s learning. To be fair to the entire class, you will receive a reduction in your
grade for each late assignment. Please contact me to discuss your situation any time you feel you might be falling behind in
the course. I am a professional, considerate person vested in your success.
7. It is always good practice to have a contingency plan for any unanticipated problems that you may encounter. I certainly
hope that doesn’t happen to you; however, problems tend to occur at the most inconvenient times. Having a back-up plan
will save you a lot of stress.
What You Can Expect of Me (your course facilitator)
1. I value your time and applaud your commitment to lifelong learning. Let me know whenever I can assist you.
2. An ungraded discussion forum is available for you to post questions that your peers or facilitator can answer. Oftentimes, you
will find others have the same question or found a solution to a situation similar to yours. Use this discussion forum any time
you need assistance or have value-added information to share. I don’t want you to experience any unnecessary frustration –
learning new skills is challenging enough.
3. If you are experiencing any difficulty with me, a personal situation, the way a discussion is being facilitated, or the feedback
you receive, please talk with me in class, or contact me by phone or Course Mail to discuss the situation privately. Your
success is my #1 priority and we will work together to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
