The purpose of this policy is to establish meaningful University grading categories, including a grade system, grade point averages, and related grading procedures. B. SCOPE AND LIMITS This policy applies to KPU’s Senate approved undergraduate, vocational and preparatory-level courses. This policy does not apply to courses outside the jurisdiction of Senate, such as Continuing/Professional studies or Apprenticeship courses. C. STATEMENT OF POLICY PRINCIPLES 1. KPU recognizes the importance of producing grades and reports of student learning achievements that are valid, reliable and accurate representations of each student’s capabilities in relation to clearly articulated learning objectives. 2. Students will be informed of the expectations and learning outcomes in a course prior to registering in that course. 3. KPU is committed to ensuring grades are consistent with national and international benchmarks. Grades must be comparable across the institution and referenced to predetermined standards. 4. KPU’s grading principles should support and facilitate progress to graduation. 5. To support learning, students should be given the opportunity to review their examinations and papers.
