Westward Expansion PowerPoint Project Lesson Objective: Students will insert an image on the second of their presentation. Students will successfully add custom animation to all slides of their presentation. Anticipatory Set: The students are very excited to learn how to add animation to their presentation. In order to effectively show them how custom animation can enhance a presentation it is equally important to show them how it can also be a deterrent. Showing the students the difference between a well animated slide and one that is not will lead us to a discussion on appropriate custom animation for their project. Teaching/Instructional Process: (Input, modeling, and checking for understanding) Students will be given directions to insert an image on their own. The direction swill be posted on the SMART Board and I will be walking around to monitor and offer assistance as they work on this activity. When finished they will gather in front of the SMART board to see a demonstration on adding Custom Animation. Using the SMART board to model the steps for adding custom animation students will learn how to do the following skills: Adding Entrance Effects: Select the dropdown menu on the Task Pane and select Custom Animation. Select the first object to be animated on the slide. Click Add Effect> Entrance> More Effects. Demonstrate how to preview the different types of effects. When finished, click ok. Repeat steps to add effects to all objects on the slide. Modifying Effects Model how to change the start, direction, and speed of each animation using the drop down menus. Removing Effects Show students how to use the Remove button to remove effects from an object. Reordering Objects Using the Reordering arrows at the bottom of the page will allow students to reorganize the objects. Once students have added effects to their presentation, they will be shown how to view the slide show using the SlideShow button in the Custom Animation window as well as using the Slide Show menu and selecting View Show Guided practice and monitoring: Students will work on their individual projects to insert appropriate Custom Animation. As they work on this, they will be monitored and Closure: Students will be asked to think about the animations that they Independent Practice: (This can be a question or problem for students to ponder on their own or in small groups or pairs. The aim is to reinforce and extend the learning beyond the lesson and ideally into real world settings.)
