liners or metal should be removed before saving. Please save your plastic caps/lids through July. The

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
I want to extend a big THANK-YOU to parishioners for your generosity during this last fiscal
year. Your donations have exceeded our expectations and allow us to move forward into the future
with confidence and hope. The Church is a charitable organization and everything from the upkeep
of the physical plant and paying the utility bills to the unleavened bread and sacramental wine used
for Mass are obtained by your gifts. May God reward you richly for your donations of time, talent,
and treasure to Saints Peter and Paul and St. Anthony's parishes.
In Christ,
Father Randall

CATHOLIC COMMUNITY ANNUAL APPEAL – Thank you to all that gave to the Catholic
Community Annual Appeal. The public phase has come to an end, but the need is ongoing.
Please consider making a gift to the CCAA and make a difference in our Diocese. Thus far,
SS Peter & Paul have $14,465 pledged with 48 parishioners included with a goal of
$19,683 and St. Anthony has $1,595 pledged with 12 parishioners included with a goal
of $2,519. There are envelopes on the bulletin tables for your convenience.
PAY-DAY LOANS AND PREDATORY LENDING: Forcing poor families to pay nearly 400% interest on
short-term loans is immoral and in direct contradiction to Catholic Social Teaching. Many of these
loans are taken out by persons on social security, disability, or finding themselves in a true financial
crisis. TV and radio commercials for predatory lenders present them as our friends, anxious to help us,
but nothing could be further from the truth. The extreme interest rates charged by payday lenders are
intended to create a debt trap for vulnerable individuals and families. Indeed, this immoral business
only makes money on people who can’t pay off the loan and who then get trapped in the vicious cycle of
greater debt. Catholic Charities of the Salina Diocese instituted The Kansas Loan Pool Project (KLPP)
which offers low-interest loans from us to pay off the unjust debt. KLPP first requires those it serves to
complete some basic financial training. It then provides monthly coaching over the life of the Catholic
Charities loan. In this way we help clients regain financial stability and decrease the chance of their
return to predatory loan use. But that’s not enough. We also need to demand legal reform from our
Kansas legislators to protect the poor and those in crisis from this intentional abuse. Bishop Edward J.
Weisenburger

MINISTRY LISTS for Altar Servers, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, and
Ushers/Greeters with phone numbers to call for substitutes are posted on our website at
www.claycentercatholics.parishesonline.com for your convenience.
THE REGISTER: As a parishioner in the Diocese of Salina, you receive The Register twice a
month to help keep you informed about your diocese and the Catholic Church at large.
Because we no longer required a paid subscription, we rely on your generosity to help fund
this initiative. If you have not donated yet this year to The Register, please consider a $20
contribution to offset our printing and mailing costs. A $30 donation will help send the
newspaper to someone who can’t afford to give. Thanks to more than 3,500 generous donors
out of nearly 18,000 recipients of the newspaper, we have reached 80 percent of our goal for
2015. Please send your donation to The Register, PO Box 1038, Salina, KS 67402.
COMMUNITIES CREATING FUTURES FOR YOUTH: Imagine never experiencing family
night, where you gather for a movie, grab some pizza and enjoy family togetherness. There are
children who have never had that experience…you can change this by becoming a foster
family. For more information, call 800.279.9914 (toll free) or visit www.tfifamilyservices.org.
REMINDER: As we move into the cold and flu season you are reminded to stay home if you
are sick. You tend to infect others when you come to Mass. God will understand, and the
healthy people will thank you.

HELP NEEDED AT THE LIGHTHOUSE FOR CHRIST: The Lighthouse has been a blessing to
so many in the Clay County community. It has seen many volunteers over the 20 plus years
of serving. There does come a time when a volunteer must give up his/her time at The
Lighthouse. Volunteers are vital to this ministry. We would welcome new volunteers to tend
to the many different tasks that are associated with our mission of “Serving those in need in
the name of Jesus Christ”.
Register on the second and fourth Fridays. Your donation of $20 will help offset the cost of
printing and mailing nearly 18,000 copies of each issue. Please send your check to The
Register, PO Box 1038, Salina, KS 67402.
