Warner Bros. Picture. By the director of Constantine and many of popular music
video such as “let’s get it started by Black Eyed Peas”, Francis Lawrence had delivery the
science fiction book into film industry with the same name “I am legend”.
The movie mainly takes place in New York City (Manhattan), The $150 million
movie budget came out on December 14, 2007. This movie stay on box office for quite
sometime after it released in the theater and gain approximately $583 million dollars in
total.
Will Smith as Robert Neville, the U.S army officer and brilliant scientist who
dealing with the whole situation of surviving and finding the cure for the pandemic.
Everything began on 2009, the same year Dr. Krippen, who did research about cancer
announced that she discovered the cure for cancer but eventually the cure mutated itself
into deathly disease, that cause people to mutate from ordinary human to wild animal’s
behavior zombie.
New York City, 2012 Robert Neville the only man on earth, living his life on his
believe that one day he will find cure for the pandemic that cause people to mutated into
Zombie. Neville has to face many unexpected things for three years that he stuck on the
island of Manhattan and has to deal with physically and mentally.
Robert Neville has to live by himself in the island of Manhattan along with
thousands of Zombie that looking forward to make him their dinner. Everyday life for
Neville is the same. In the morning he exercises, eat breakfast (box food), listen to music
take shower, and get ready to go outside. In the afternoon he goes out and hunts for deer
to supple his food sources, go into people homes to find something that is useful for him.
Also he has to relax himself by going to the DVD store and actually act like he rents the
DVD instead of grabbing the entire DVD at one time and leave. Also he goes to the
harbor to hit some golf balls. Most importantly he broadcast himself on a Radio to see if
there are anyone left in the World everyday “I can provide food, I can provide shelter”
said Neville. When his watch alarmed, it tells him it is time to head home. He follows his
routine everyday driving back to his house and pour some liquid infront of his house (I
think he try to get rid of his smell, to prevent Zombies follow him home). At home he
spend his time doing a research in his basement lab for about half an hour or so. Then he
has to prepare the food, take a shower for his dog, Sam, listen to music then when the
second alarm rang he has to close all his windows (Metal windows as if they are bank
save room. At night he can hardly sleep, holding his riffle and hug his dog along with the
sound of zombies screaming outside over the town of Manhattan.
Everyday seem to be the same no sign of survivor, no cure, just a regular day for
Neville. One day Neville and Sam went out, while Neville hitting some golf balls on the
wing of fighting jet, Sam saw a deer running the Neville pick up his riffle and ran after
Deer and Sam expected get that deer for dinner. Unexpected the deer decided to go into
the building that is completely dark also Sam followed into the building. Neville scream
as loud as he could “NO SAM NO” because he knew what is in there. Neville get back
into the building to rescues Sam out and that was a very intent moment because Neville
about to lose his only friend. But Neville managed to rescued Sam and Get out from the
building safely. Then Neville decides to capture one of the zombies to test the vaccine he
had developed. After he captured one of the zombies everything seems to be the same.
The next day he went out and does his routine but unexpected he found “Frank”
the male model Neville place in the DVD rental store, on the street. He was very pissed
off and confused of how frank is here instead of DVD rental store. He started to firing at
frank but nothing happen, Neville walk toward frank and unexpected his leg got caught
by the trap exactly like the one he did for capturing zombie from the other day. Neville
hit his head on the ground and passed out for quite a while, left Sam bragging to wake
Neville up for quite long time. By the time Neville woke up it was almost dark, his watch
alarmed warned him that it is time to go home. He took out his knife and cut the rope to
free his leg, accidentally he fall on his back and the knife went thru his leg. He tried to
get back to his car so hard but that is when he saw the zombie brought out the dogs to
chase after Neville but the sunlight is the only problem for those dogs. When the sunlight
went out the dogs chase after Neville and Sam. That moment Sam save Neville life by
sacrificed it own life. Same later turned into Zombie after they got home. Neville had to
kill Sam by his own hand, then he totally gone mad and went out to kill the zombies. He
drove to the south sea port to get his revenge for Sam. But things change because of the
Zombie Un-human ability Neville was in the trouble but he was rescued by Anna Montez
and a boy name Ethan who travel from Maryland because they heard Neville’s broadcast.
They took Neville home and take care of Neville. Then Neville work up with his vision
of his wife and his son that passed away because of the accident during evacuate.
Later that night some how the Zombies are in front of Neville’s house he figured
how, it was from last night that Anna rescued Neville home but she did not think that
Zombies will follow them home. Neville tried to use many things such as Bomb, and
Spotlights, but those had no effect on hungry zombies. Neville, Anna, and Ethan were
forced to go into the basement lab that is when they found out the vaccine that Neville
made is successful. He took the blood from the zombie that he cured and gave it to Anna
and tells them to hide in the hole until the sunlight. He took out the hand bomb and
suicide himself along with those zombies. Anna and Ethan got out the next day and head
to the military camp and gave the blood that Neville told them to the solider.
I am Legend is one of the best science fiction of all time. While watching the
movie there are no where it made me bored at all. I think the action, acting, actor, plot,
advertisements, and the fact that movie is happening in Manhattan made it worth seeing.
Over all the movie was well done, everything was well developed in my opinion the
movie deserves an A and should be nominating for many awards.
