Minutes of Patient Group Meeting 30th September 2013
Present: Neville Stephens, Susan -Mellor Palmer

Apologies: Clive Leworthy, David Evans, Rose Marston, Liz Owens
1. Neville Stephens opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.
2. Minutes.
Correct record of minutes from 22nd July 2013
3. Matters Arising.
Susan Mellor-Palmer said nothing to share, this was Susan first
day back after 3 weeks Annual Leave.
Opening of Bank Account Wendy advised that paperwork
completed and with the Bank.
Preparations for Dr Winters Retirement Wendy said in these were
in hand.
4. Treasures Report.
Wendy confirmed that paperwork had been completed and
being processed by Bank.
5. Other Reports.
Sue Carrington shared that The First Tea Party had taken place
and had been a success. The group consisted of eight people and
they had all had a good time. A discussion followed re the
interest shown by others that do not meet the criteria. It was
suggested that maybe they could become involved by hosting,
helping with transport or baking. The next Sunday Tea Party will
be on the second Sunday of October. The Annual General
Meeting of Good Neighbours is to take place at The Methodist
Church Hall on 16th October at 11am. There will be a Speaker
from Contact the Elderly. Everyone welcome.
Julie Gilding shared that Community Care was progressing well
And there are plenty of referrals.
Flu vaccinations will take place at the Community Centre on
Thursday 10th October .There will be a follow up day for people
unable to attend. Tina confirmed that the Lions will be providing
Refreshments. Susan asked if anyone from the PPG would be
Attending as this was a good opportunity to raise awareness of
the PPG and CoCo. The group agreed maybe a table with
information and Wendy kindly offered to update hand-outs
that had previously been used. Susan offered to provide Poster
about CoCo. Julie will attend 2 – 4pm, Tina 9 -12 and other
members depending on their commitments.
Susan kindly shared that the Practice as 3700 patients. Dr
Winters position had been advertised. Susan will update
at the next meeting.
In-depth discussion regarding the PPG fundraising for CoCo.
Several ideas shared one being a Beetle drive which could be
held at Lambeth Community Room. Approaching Local
business was also suggested. It was agreed that Fundraising
would be added to the next Agenda.

Future Plans
The group discussed Winter Warmer Day and the consensus
was that an alternative maybe A Spring event? This will be
discussed at the next meeting.
Diabetic Clinic
Neville had been approached regarding the time of the local
meeting. It is difficult for people who work to attend. The meeting
is open to everyone and is on the first Wednesday of the month in
the afternoon. Neville gave the enquirer contact details and
the enquirer was pleased to receive them.

CoCo is progressing well. There are now 3 Volunteers and hopefully
more in the future. CRB checks now ready to be completed.
Wendy asked about Health Checks that are done at the Surgery.
Apparently there is a several week wait and it can be difficult for
people who work to attend. Susan explained that letters inviting
patients to attend are sent out in batches. 7 appointments per
week for patients aged 40-74years of age that have not got pre
existing condition. The appointment needs to be early morning
because of the fasting blood test. Therefore evening appointments
are not appropriate.
Neville said maybe the group should invite Karen Higgins to attend
a meeting next year. Clive currently is very proactive in forwarding
emails to members keeping them updated regarding meetings etc.
