Rivera Assistant Principal Dear Parents and Students: The week of October 24-28 is “Drug Free Education Week” at Pyburn Elementary School. The purpose of the week is to help students and parents understand and learn acceptable reasons to choose drug free lifestyles. We will be selecting actions to accent on our beliefs to remain drug free by wearing clothing items to symbolize our support of “Red Ribbon Week”. “Celebrate Red Ribbon Week, Be Drug Free!” Dress-up Day Themes Oct. 24 Oct. 25 Don’t Just Wear Red, Go Green- Wear as much green as possible to promote being drug-free. Team Up Against Drugs- Wear your favorite team’s jerseys and or hats. Oct. 26 “Too much pride to do Drugs”-Wear school colors of black and gold to show school pride. Oct. 27 “Texans give Drugs the Boot!” – Wear western clothing or Texans gear (including blue jeans) and cowboy or other boots. “Reading is Better Than Drugs!” – Dress up like your favorite book character. Oct. 28 Activities: -Daily lucky ribbons announced to get free “Red Ribbon” prizes. -Daily dress up days for the week. -Grade level decorations and essay contests -Book character dress up day, Friday, October 28, 2011. -School wide parade of book character costumes in the school hallway. ~Students and staff not dressing for dress up days should follow the regular school dress code. Denim jeans are only to be worn when specified. Ms. C. Espinoza Marsh, School Guidance Counselor Red Ribbon Week Activities at Pyburn Grade Level Activity Pre-Kindergarten “Too Bright for Drugs”-Sunglasses cutout or a color a cutout of a light bulb. Kindergarten “We Take Hugs-Not Drugs!” Teddy Bear cutouts to place outside classroom doors. First Grade “Drugs Bug Me” Decorate pictures of ladybugs to show pledge to be drug-free. Second Grade “Paws”itvely Drug Free- Make paw prints for a pledge wall to decorate room or outside classroom door. Third Grade “Red Ribbon Making”-Third grade classes will decorate red ribbons and design one of their own for display. Fourth Grade “Respect Yourself, Don’t Do Drugs”- Essay writing activity about how being drug free respects your body. Fifth Grade “What I Can Be Drug Free”- Fifth graders will write about what professions they would like to grow up to be. These findings can be graphed or the essays can be displayed.
