Formal Speech and Debate Attire
When you are giving a formal presentation, you must also dress formally. The way you
dress says a good deal about you, so it is better to learn this lesson now. For the
presentation, the following are the requirements for dress:
Males:
 Collared, button-down shirt and tie
 Khaki or dress pants
 Dress shoes
Females:
 Dress pants or skirts of appropriate length (just above the knee
is the shortest allowed)
 Dresses of appropriate length which meet dress code
PRESENTATION DO’S AND DON’TS WITH CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES:
DO
Make sure your clothes are ironed.
Make sure that your clothes match.
Males: Tuck shirts into pants and wear a belt.
Females: Make sure your hair is out of your face.
Wear shoes that are broken in.
DON’T
Wear loud colors and patterns
Wear flashy jewelry.
Put anything into your pockets.
Wear lots of cologne or perfume.
Wear jeans, sandals, or slippers.
Wear a tie with a polo shirt.
