Hughes 1 Antiana Hughes Anna Thomas English 1 Honors 16 December 2010 What Is Non-Fiction? Non-fiction is realistic and true, the subject matter is about a person, a place, or a thing. Non-fiction talks about events that actually happened, real places, and real people. Types of non-fiction are autobiographies, articles, essays, and speeches. Some examples are Carry Your Own Skis by Lina Dolan, Is Hunting Ethical? by Anne Causey, A Brush With Earl, The Ignored Lesson Of Anne Frank by Bruno Bettelheim, and Computers At Home: Educational Hope vs. Teenage Reality by Randall Stross. In order to analyze and understand non-fiction you should be able to identify and define bias, the tone, perspective, author’s purpose, and the style. Non-fiction is useful because it is very informal. Most people read, or write nonfiction for information. Whether it’s a newspaper, updating us about the latest news. Or just a story, talking about events that really happened.
