Sociology in Cartoons
Your task: Using the newspaper or the internet as your resource, you must find THREE
cartoon strips that you will use as the source-material for this assignment. You will be
responsible for analyzing each of these cartoons, using a sociological perspective.
Your three selected cartoons must each demonstrate ONE of the following situations:
o A situation where a character(s) experience Social Role Conflict
o A situation where a character(s) experience difficulty fulfilling the expectations of
their particular Social Role
o A situation where a character(s) experience difficulty fulfilling an expected Social
Norm
Analysis Requirements:
For each of your selected cartoons, you must complete the following:
1) Provide a brief plot description of your cartoons
2) Identify the social phenomenon that is demonstrated in your cartoon. Be specific,
refer to an example from the cartoon!
3) Explain the effect or consequence of the demonstrated social phenomenon. Be
specific, refer to an example from the cartoon!
Your analysis portion for each cartoon should be no longer than one paragraph. You must
write your analysis in sentence format, typed.
You will need to provide me with a copy of each of the cartoons.
