Directions for Oral Book Report
(Wednesday-Wednesday, January 6-13, 2016)
There are no written requirements for this book report.
You are allowed to use note cards. Do not read directly from notes. Make frequent eye contact
with the class.
Oral presentations must be 4-6 minutes in length. (Presentations less than 4 minutes or more
than 6 minutes will lose 10 points.)
Your oral report must be on an AR book. You must have read and taken an AR test on this
book during the 2nd Quarter. You cannot do a report on novel we are currently reading in class.
You may either make a copy of the front cover of your book or bring your book to the presentation.
If you cannot make a copy or bring your book, you may draw the cover of your book. This will serve
as a visual aid. (Presentations that do not include this visual aid will lose 10 points.)
You must include the following information in your oral presentation:
1.
Introduction: Title and author of book. Show the copy of your book cover. Tell the name
of the book and the author of the book. Report any information important to introducing
the book (number of pages, publishing date, information about the author, etc.).
2.
Characters: Name the important characters and explain their relationships in the book.
Explain how they are important to the plot. Identify the protagonist and the antagonist.
3.
Setting: Time (year) and place (geographic area)
4.
Point of View: 1st or 3rd narrator (how do you know?) If 1st person, what is the narrator’s
name and how does he/she fit into the plot?
5.
Plot: Tell what happens in the book. What are the main events that make up the story?
Describe rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Describe major conflicts.
6.
Possible Theme(s): What is the “lesson” that could be applied to life? What does this book
show about life? What lesson or lessons did you learn?
7.
Conclusion: Did you enjoy the book or not? On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest,
how would you rate this book? Would you refer this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The oral presentations will begin on Wednesday, January 6th and will end on Wednesday,
January 13th. Presentations will be random; therefore, everyone should come prepared to
present on Wednesday the 6th.
