English 1 First Semester Mrs. Borchers keri.7142@gmail.com Purpose: The purpose of English 1 is to familiarize and build the student’s writing skills, vocabulary skills and continue studying major world authors from various periods in history. Major Points of Study: The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet A Christmas Carol The Odyssey Our Town The Diary of Anne Frank Poetry Historical Documents Nonfiction readings Grammar/Writing Rules Supplies: 3-Ring Binder, Paper/Notebook, pens/pencils, a Composition book or notebook to keep in the classroom. Testing: Quizzes will be given with OR without warning Unit Tests Essays Re-Testing: Students will have 1 week after receiving the graded test to re-take. Grading: Will follow the guideline within the student handbook. Homework =10% Tests/Quizzes=30% Book Reports/In Class Work/Bell-Ringers/Journals=20% Essays/Projects (all aspects to completed assignment)=40% Late Work: Will follow the guidelines established in the Student Handbook.
