How to configure weighting in the gradebook in Moodle 2. The Weighted mean of grades aggregation method calculates each item grade by multiplying its percentage by the the weight you assign. All items are then added together and divided by the total amount of weight points in the category. The higher you weight an item, the more heavily it will count toward a student's grade. Set up weighting for assignments/categories by following the steps below. Locate the Settings block, Course administration, click "Grades." joule2 - 148 Navigate to the Categories and items area. If your gradebook uses tab-based navigation, click on the tab that says "Categories and items." If the gradebook uses tab-based navigation, click on the tab that says "Categories and items." If the gradebook uses a dropdown menu, locate Categories and items and select "Simple view." Set the course Aggregation to "Weighted mean of grades." joule2 - 149 Enter the weighted values. A value of 70 will cause that item to be weighted 70%. Weights can be assigned to an Activity individually, or to an entire category. To assign a weight to a category, the individual category's aggregation strategy does not need to be set to Weighted mean of grades unless the Activities within the category will also be weighted.
