PRESS RELEASE 6th February 2012 Bishop Tim Thornton starts BIG Jubilee ‘Thank You’ to the Queen in Truro Cathedral The Bishop of Truro, The Rt Revd Tim Thornton, is inviting the people of Cornwall and it’s parishes across the Diocese to say a special thank you in an open letter to the Queen in this her Diamond Jubilee year. Truro Cathedral is one of many churches and cathedrals throughout the country leading the way in expressing the nation’s thanks to Her Majesty the Queen in her Diamond Jubilee year. Bishop Tim has set the ball rolling by putting his signature to the ‘Big Thank You' letter which will be on display in Truro Cathedral, along with a pile of blank pages for visitors to add their own words of appreciation and expressions of goodwill as part of ‘The Big Jubilee Thank You’. These will be collected up at the end of May and delivered to Buckingham Palace. Canon Perran Gay, Acting Dean of Truro Cathedral, who has had a hand in the preparation of prayers and liturgical resources for the Diamond Jubilee, said, “We are hugely indebted to Queen Elizabeth for the way she has served this country so faithfully and so steadfastly throughout her 60 years as our monarch. The BIG Jubilee Thank You is a way for ordinary people to acknowledge her extraordinary ‘service’ to us all.” Truro Cathedral is kicking off its extensive Jubilee celebrations with a free Diamond Jubilee Organ Recital with Luke Bond on Friday 9th March at 1.10pm featuring Walton’s Coronation March ‘Orb and Sceptre’ composed for the 1953 Coronation as well as Vaughan Williams’ delightful prelude, Rhosymedre (rumoured to be one of the Queen’s favourite organ pieces) and Walton’s Touch her Sweet Lips, from his film music to the film Henry V.
