The video provides a use of technology that involves use of the basic skills above. The successful integration of computer and information technology and the video camera in the EFL classroom can greatly enhance learning. It is important for us, as EFL teachers, to intelligently explore and Goals of the Course 1. Students will enhance their basic computer skills and explore ways to include computer technology as part of their pedagogical toolbox for teaching English. 2. Students will use their computer and pedagogical skills to create computer based activities, lessons, performance tasks and projects for use in the EFL classroom. (These tasks and projects are an essential part of the New Bagrut Assessment as well as offering a way to include Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) an essential part of any EFL/ESL classroom). 3. Students will learn how to use the camera and video camera and computer as a tool to enhance the process of teaching and learning English. 4. Students will teach at least one lesson including computer activities and lesson plans that they have built to meet the needs of their pupils in accordance with the benchmarks and curriculum. The computer is to be included in a way that will attest to the added value it can give to an EFL lesson. Course Topics 1. Exploration of types of computer activities that can enhance learning in the EFL classroom (based on educational theories) 2. Identification of elements in the curriculum where computer activities can enhance pupil learning. 3. Strengthening of student computer skills in order to build self confidence and relevant learning activities using computers. 4. Choosing and developing appropriate computer activities to reach desired educational goals. 5. Developing methods for evaluating and assessing learning activities using computers. 6. Use of the camera to create short videos that will require the students to create a script using written English, acting the scene using spoken English and editing the video using the computer.Use of the camera (stills or video) along with computer technology, as a tool for learning, appreciating and practicing English Course Format 1. The work during the course will be done in conjunction with the students’ didactics advisor. 2. During semester I there will be regular weekly lessons. During semester I or II the student will build and then teach his/her computer learning unit in his/her classroom. At the end of semester II there will be a final class meeting where students will present and discuss their computer projects (this meeting will be instead of the course exam). 3. Lessons given by students must be observed by the computer and/or the didactics instructor and completed during the 2010-2011 academic year. Students who do not meet this requirement will be required to repeat the course. (It is strongly suggested that the student lesson be given during semester 1 and before Pessach because of scheduling problems in the schools after that). Course Requirements 1. Timely completion of all exercises/tasks during the course as an integral part of the learning process (late exercises will be marked down) including portfolio of work done in course. 2. Creation of a Team Video 3. Design and preparation of computer based learning unit including: breakdown of topic being taught, lesson plan, computer activity, assessment plan for activity. All lesson plans, computer activities and assessments must be approved by both instructors before they are taught by the student in the classroom setting. 4.
