TEACHER - ELEMENTARY
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
QUALIFICATIONS
























Elementary teacher training with a Major or Diploma in Special Education
A minimum of five years teaching experience at the elementary level
Appropriate coursework in developmental, intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities and
assessment
Experience with Functional Behaviour Assessments and developing behaviour plans
Familiarity with strategies for helping students develop appropriate social skills
Recent training in self- regulation strategies
Knowledge and understanding of students with extreme mental health disorders
Experience with case management and current training in the collaborative IEP process
Ability to develop individualized academic program for students who require adaptations
Proven experience in working with designated students in an inclusive setting
Ability to build trust and rapport with parents and students
Knowledge of primary and intermediate programs and the new BC curriculum
Understanding of Inquiry Based Learning
Proven ability to train and manage Educational Assistants and Youth Care Workers
Knowledge and experience with Positive Behaviour Support or an equivalent
Knowledge of the Response to Intervention approach to behaviour intervention
Excellent and effective written and oral communication skills
Proven ability to work as part of a collaborative team
Excellent interpersonal skills
Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports
Currently certified in Crisis Prevention Intervention training or willingness to train in this program
Training and experience in appropriate testing and assessment for special needs students
Proven ability as a highly effective team member.
Eligible for B.C. Certification.
