Position
TEACHER – ELEMENTARY
LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL & POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR
QUALIFICATIONS















A masters’ degree or equivalent in counselling preferred, but master’s degree and related experience will be
considered
Minimum 3 years teaching experience at the elementary level
A thorough understanding of attachment theory, cognitive behavioural therapy, current best practices in
psycho education, and other self-regulation strategies and resources
A thorough understanding of positive behavioural interventions and resources for children K-5
Training and experience implementing various Tier One school-wide behaviour/SEL interventions, especially
the MindUp Program
Training and experience implementing various Tier Two targeted behaviour/SEL interventions
Recent Training and experience in providing Functional Behaviour Assessments, behaviour plans and safety
plans
Experience organizing and facilitating workshops on SEL topics
Experience and understanding of parent engagement strategies
A broad base understanding of current educational research
Effective written and oral interpersonal skills
Self-directed with strong organizational skills and good time management
Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum report(s)
A highly effective team member
Eligible for B.C. Certification
Duties:
 Consult/Respond to schools (K-5) in a leadership capacity to coordinate and help plan for Tier 1 and 2 SEL
interventions
 Collaborate, consult and co-teach with classroom teachers
 Observe students in the classroom
 Create goal focused student plans with the school team and assist in data collection and interpretation
 Serve as district contact and professional development trainer for self-regulation, attachment, prevention,
PBS, and other Social Emotional Learning
 Assist other district staff to coordinate services for parents and outside agencies
