LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES – Remedial Math Intervention
QUALIFICATIONS
LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES
The Learning Support Services teacher will be required to review all G4 files of incoming students and provide
guidance to admin, teachers and support staff on the best educational support mechanisms available for the student.
This individual will be responsible for managing the case load of all designated students and will be required to
work closely with all the teachers in the school to ensure the timely completion of individual education plans and the
documentation required to designate a student. This person must be extremely competent in creating student
learning plans and judging appropriate graduation streams for individuals entering the program. Individual learning
contracts and achievement of students will be monitored monthly. This individual will be expected to provide one
on one enhanced learning support for struggling learners with a focus on remedial Math. They will also need to
work in concert with teachers to identify and support students within a resource room context.
Qualifications























Secondary teacher training with a major in Special Education and a minor in Math.
Experience teaching Mathematics AND Learning Support Services
Detailed knowledge of graduation requirements for Dogwood diploma, adult diploma and school
completion certificates
Extensive experience teaching in a resource room
Extensive experience working as part of a learning services team
Working knowledge of the Graduation Handbook of Procedures
Working knowledge of the Leaps and Bounds math program 3-9.
Working knowledge of the Math curriculum grade 3-11.
Extensive experience teaching At-Risk learners.
Special Education course work or diploma
Extensive knowledge of ministry requirements for designating special education students
Proven ability to plan and implement student learning plans
Proven ability to write IEPs, review G4 files and oversee the development of intensive and moderate
behaviour packages.
Proven ability to work under tight timelines
Demonstrated ability to administer and interpret educational assessments
Ability to work with teachers to set up a viable learning plan as indicated by the testing
Proven ability to liaise with community agencies regarding programs available to youth
Ability to interview students, timetable them and plan an appropriate graduation stream for all students
Ability to follow up with teachers regarding student achievement, attendance, behaviour on a monthly
basis.
Demonstrated experience as a highly effective team member
Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum report(s)
Effective written and oral interpersonal skills
Eligible for B.C. Certification
