General Description/Duties
Ability to work as part of an integrated learning services team, providing assistance to students with special needs
which may include:

learning challenges, intellectual challenges, physical challenges, behavioural needs, visual and hearing
challenges

proficiency with computers in order to assist students in using computer technology such as: Successmaker,
Cowriter, Pixwriter
Specific duties may include supporting students’ needs in the areas of:

cultural support (Aboriginal, International Education and ESL positions)

targeted instructional interventions for individual or small groups under the direction of the teacher

observation, data collection and record-keeping

communication and technology

behaviour support (implementing behaviour plans and ensuring student safety)

arrival and departure via bus or taxi transportation

physical management of personal and health care routines as directed such as:
- glucose monitoring (assist students with blood testing using a glucometer); seizure management; feeding;
toileting; mobility; clothing; lifting; medication

accompanying students and participating in community field trips to swimming pool and skating rink

Under the general direction of the Vice-Principal of Learning Support at
the CORE offices, the incumbent provides assistance and support to
students with highly dysfunctional behaviour. The incumbent will have:
the ability to work off-site from a school environment in an outreach
capacity; considerable working knowledge of the needs/behaviour of atrisk youth and current intervention/counseling strategies; working
knowledge of youth service agencies, the wrap-around system for reengaging youth in the community, and the referral system for accessing
community support for youth and their families; and the ability to
engage students in a variety of activities outside of the classroom.
Experience/proven ability to work with behaviour-designated,
disengaged, and/or high-risk youth at the secondary level is preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (social work, Child/Youth Care etc.)
an asset.
In addition, the incumbent must have the following:

students in need and refer them to appropriate agencies/resources –
assist in coordinating events at school involving large groups of students,
bringing awareness to drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention (ex: antitobacco poster contest, invite speakers from ICBC to present the
dangers of drinking and driving to Grade 8 students, etc.) General
understanding of the middle-school model.
