Naked Magazine Debuts on Thursday, February 7
All are invited to attend the debut of Naked, LPC’s new journalistic magazine, on Thursday,
February 7, at 6 p.m. in the Reading Room (2401). The magazine focuses on members of the
LPC community, and, as set forth in its mission statement, exposes the diversity of the
college by digging deeper into students’ lives and stripping away the layers.
The debut issue feature articles on current students, alums, and two faculty members.
The debut party will start with a silent auction, running from 6 to 7 p.m. Auction items
include: tickets to a Warriors’ game, tickets to the Shakespeare’s Associates’ production
of Proof, dinner for two at a Thai restaurant, tickets for rock climbing at Valley Rock
Climbing Gym, a servant for a morning, art welding sculptures, Sam and Fudds (a date with
Sam at Fuddruckers), and more. Proceeds will be used to support future editions of the
magazine.
A ceremony will take place following the silent auction. Then, Freqncy 8, Sounds of
Rebirth, and Helepolis will play. All three bands feature LPC alums.
Desserts (some provided by Wente Vineyard) will be served.
Graduation 2008 – “A Time of Change”
This year’s graduation will be on Friday, May 30. Rehearsal will be in the afternoon,
followed by the ceremony in the early evening. (Hours will be announced at end of
February).
This year’s ceremony will be held in the PE Complex’s gymnasium and there will be tickets
provided to each graduate.
A memo from Dr. Jones and Pam Luster will be distributed to faculty with a faculty cap
and gown reservation form.
Flex Day
Don't forget to put FLEX on your calendar! Feb 14th is the college Flex Day where much of
the day will be spent working on our Accreditation Self Study. Be reminded that this
cancels all classes until 4:30 p.m. on the afternoon of the 14th. Classified staff working on
Standard teams are encouraged to participate. Supervisors have been made aware that
the Classified participation is important to the overall success of our Accreditation Self
Study. The campus will receive a flyer on Flex activities and scheduling soon!
Broad & Bold: The Watercolors of Bill Paskewitz and Salvador Valencia
Fine Art instructor Bill Paskewitz would like to invite you to his watercolor reception on
Saturday, February 9, 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Lynn House Gallery [809 First Street,
Downtown Antioch – (925) 779-7018]. Bill is also showing at the Triton Museum of Art in
Santa Clara, CA until March 22nd. The Triton show is a statewide painting competition and

2008 – 2010 LPC CATALOG PHOTO SHOOTS
Meg Epperly, VCOM's LPC Catalog Manager, will soon email you to schedule photo shoots
for ALL disciplines. Please schedule times/classes that truly ILLUSTRATE WHAT YOUR
PROGRAM "DOES.” If an excellent image involves going outside the classroom/lab/studio,
please advise when/where. Ditto all sports, events, clubs, etc… Note: most sessions are
approximately 15 minutes.
2008 Las Positas Literary Anthology
The editorial staff of the LPC Literary Anthology is currently accepting submissions of
original unpublished poetry, essays, short stories and art work (including photography) for
inclusion in its new spring publication.
Contributions from any member of the LPC or Tri-Valley community are welcome.
The deadline for submission has been extended to February 29, 2008.
“Shakespeare on Tour” Comes to LPC
LPC has the pleasure of hosting the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival's "Shakespeare on
Tour" production of Twelfth Night on February 11, 2008 in the LPC Little Theater. The
abridged play runs from 11:00-12:00 with a question and answer period to follow.
Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Philip Manwell and the LPC Foundation, this performance is
FREE to all members of the campus community.
Public Safety Club Says “Thank You, LPC”
The Public Safety Club of Las Positas College, representing future Police, Fire and Medical
Professionals wishes to thank you for your generosity and your gift of giving toys to
children who are less fortunate and in need during the Christmas Holidays. Over 200
(mostly new toys) were donated by faculty, staff and students of the Las Positas College
Family. Seventy of the new toys were distributed to children within the Las Positas
College CalWORKs program. The remaining 130 toys were donated to the Livermore TriValley Haven for distribution to children in need throughout the Tri-Valley region. We
should all be very proud of the wonderful success of this worthwhile project here at Las
Positas College. Please accept our heartfelt gratitude to all who participated and for
making it possible to bring smiles to so many children and their families during the Holiday
Season.
Honors Program
The spring semester’s deadline for honors contracts is Thursday, February 28, at 5:00 pm.
Booklets will be ready soon. Please encourage any interested students to consider applying
to the LPC Honors Transfer Program; information on the program, including the application
form, may be found at www.laspositascollege.edu/honors. And put this on your calendars:
This spring’s Honors Symposium will be on Monday, May 5, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm in the
Lecture Hall, Room 2420.
2008 ARTSFUND Grants Program
The Alameda County Supervisors’ ARTSFUND Grants Program has funds available to
support dance, literature, media arts, music, theater, visual arts, and multidisciplinary
programs presented in Alameda County by Alameda County nonprofit organizations. You
can download ARTSFUND info at www.acgov.org/arts. The grant awards are $1,000 each,
and the grant project period is July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2010. Free application workshops
will be held on January 23 (Fremont) and January 30 (Oakland). Friday, February 29, is
the grant application deadline.
