One of 20 in nation on All-USA Academic Team, Kris Adhikari. More than 1,800 community
college students from 800 colleges were nominated for the Community College Team.
One of 73 in nation to win Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Award for Undergraduate Transfer
Scholarships, Alaina Schofield.

Student Veteran Shines to Win “Bright Mind” Scholarship
One of Only 10 Winners from More Than 8,000 Applicants
Student Veteran Julian Alvarez was named a "PG&E Bright Mind"
and received $30,000 a year for five years to continue his education.
Only 10 people out of more than 8,000 applicants were awarded the
PG&E Bright Minds Scholarship. He is a member of the Student
Veterans Organization, a member of the Psychology Club, and is part
of PSI BETA. He was featured in a story on ABC KGO-TV.

Stanford University to Present Work by
Six Honors Students
Congratulations to our six students whose projects have
been accepted for presentation at the sixth annual
Community College Research Symposium at Stanford
University: Natalie Craig, Brenna Gomer, Christine Kelly,
Rafi Ansari, Candy Wager, and Tyler Hayden.
Honors Transfer Program Coordinator Candy
Klaschus noted that 185 proposals from across
California were submitted and only 84 were chosen.

Led by Cindy Balero and Sean Day, the International Student Program serves more than
130 students from 35 different countries.
We Are Proud of Our High Transfer Rate
Four year institutions are eager to recruit LPC students. This year, 48 colleges visited
campus for our successful Transfer Day. Four LPC students were among the Fall 2012
class of transfer students to the University of California, Berkeley Haas School of
Business which accepts only 100 transfers per year from across the nation.
Renee Pegues Received Inaugural Mayor’s Commendation
Livermore Mayor John Marchand presented the first-ever “Mayors Commendation” to LPC
Executive Assistant Renee Pegues in honor of her key role in staging the Livermore Old
Fashioned Fourth of July Event. Renee’s expertise and commitment to serving our community
ensured that the entire event could be successfully staged.

President Kevin Walthers Invited as Guest Speaker
at Chabot College’s Law and Democracy Series
Dr. Walthers discussed the history of segregation in public schools and
universities and drew comparisons to Fisher vs. Texas, the affirmative action case
before the United States Supreme Court.
