Dr. ANTON LAMBOJ – Austria
Was born 1956 and has been an aquarist since the age of ten. Around 1980, he began
to take a special interest in the cichlids of West and Central Africa. This interests led,
in 1988, to the beginning of his academic education at the University of Vienna.
Works for Master degree and PhD were focussed on the systematics of West African
cichlids, which still is the main work and aquaristic interest too. Since 1998, he works
as lecturer and associated scientist of the University of Vienna. His work combines
morphological and anatomical methods as well as ethological studies and molecular
methods.
As an aquarist, he is interested in many other groups of fish (“every fish is of interest
and beautiful”), with some more detailed interest in Anabantoids (especially for the
genera Betta and Parosphromenus) and West African Killies. Over the last years, the
interest for some South American cichlids (Gymnogeophagus) increased too.
Other hobbies done with passion is keeping orchids in a small greenhouse, gardening,
keeping and breeding exotic birds and diving (all connected with a lot of
photographing - what is some kind of passion too).
Over the years, Anton Lamboj has made 18 field/collecting trips to Africa,
additionally several trips to South East Asia, Central America and South America.
Recently, he holds about 50 tanks to breed and to study his fish, he has authored more
then 300 papers (both academic and hobbist) in ten languages, including four books
(numbers 5 and 6 are in print) and contributions to about 40 other books (aquaristic as
well as scientific ones). Till now, he has described 3 genera and 19 species.
He is lecturer and associated scientist of the University of Vienna, also president of
the Austrian Association of Aquarium and Terrarium Clubs (OEVVOE), vice
president of the European Aquarium and Terrarium Ass. (EATA), editor for West
African cichlids and Dwarf Cichlids for the DCG-Info (journal of the DCG = German
Cichlid Association), chief editor of aqua-terra-austria (Austrian aquarium and
terrarium journal), curator in the C.A.R.E.S. program and at Cichlid Room
Companion; also honorary member of the French Cichlid Ass. (AFC), the Hill
Country Cichlid Club (HCCC), Texas and the Nordiska Ciklidsällskapet (NSC). 2011
he was honoured for his international work for the hobby as a „Mastère fédéral
d‘aquariophilie“ by the French Aquarium Federation FFA.
Ian Fuller - England
"Born in Birmingham in 1946.
A toolmaker by trade, and self confessed Corydoras nut by admission.
I started keeping tropical fish in 1970 in a small 18 inch aquarium, it was not very
long before I had two, four foots and two three foots set up in the spare room. Over
the first two or three years I kept and bred many of the popular fish groups. Starting
with South American Cichlids, graduating through Barbs, Anabantids and Characins.
Although I had kept several species of catfish during this period, but it wasn't until
early in 1973 that I took an active interest in them. Then when I bred my first species
of Corydoras in 1974 I was well and truly hooked and have been ever since.
My first fish house took shape in 1977 and was a sectioned off part of my garage,
which housed 36 - 18 x 18 x 12 inch tanks. It was then that I started seriously
breeding Corydoras a project which still continues to this day in what is now my third
fish house, and a list of successful spawnings covering 130 Corydoradinae species.
I have self publish four books, two on the identification of corydoradinae catfishes
along with co-author Hans-Gerog Evers, and two on breeding corydoradinae catfishes
the latest one being a second edition of my original 2001 book, the latest covering
more than 150 species spawning logs.
More recently I retired from toolmaking and started to working in the aquatic trade,
but this has now ended after a four year spell and I am now back toolmaking on a part
time basis."
Peter DeSouza – Canada
Peter DeSouza has had a love for living things all his life. His parents lived in fear of
what he would bring home and keep in the basement. From an early age he had
aquariums and raised livebearers and spawned some of the easier cichlids. In
University his interests turned to the new African cichlids from Lake Malawi that
were just hitting the scene. Later he spawned and raised Blue Gularis before getting
married and leaving the fish hobby behind for a few years.
In 2002 after accepting a position with a Poultry Company in Edmonton he decided to
raise fish again. This time he started with killifish right away with a few small tanks.
However, as a good friend once told him, ’Breeding fish is easy. It is stopping the
tanks from multiplying that is the challenge’. Today his fishroom contains
approximately 50 tanks of various sizes filled with mostly Killifish.
He has raised and spawned representatives of most of the Killie groups but has a
preference for fish of the genus Fundulopanchax particularly sjoestedti, the Blue
Gularis.
His presentation, titled ‘Killifish for Hard Water’ is designed to dispel the myth that
Killies can only prosper in soft, acid water

Auctions are open to all, with only members in good standing of a recognized aquarium
club/society being able to sell items or run a tab account.
All persons registered as sellers will automatically be registered as buyers. Each club member will be
assigned a unique Auction Number that will function as both their Buyer and Seller number.
Anyone not registered as a seller can register as a buyer prior to placing bids if they wish to run a
tab. Current club members need only register to activate their Auction Number. Otherwise cash
payment will be required at the time of purchase.
Bid increments in full dollar amounts will only be accepted. Minimum bids are $1.
All purchases become the immediate responsibility of the buyer.
Out of town guests who are in good standing of a recognized aquarium club or society will be
allowed to bring 25 items to the auction.
Each ACE member is only allowed 10 items for the convention auction. In order to activate these
lots the member must notify the Auction Chairperson. Lots are available on a first-come firstserved basis. These assigned lots are non-transferrable.
Reserve bids under five (5) dollars will not be accepted. Commission will be paid on unsold items
based upon the reserve bid unless the seller drops the reserve bid.
When registering items, the seller must submit a list of all items to be offered for sale with the
appropriate information legibly entered prior to the start of the auction.
No rocks or gravel will be accepted for auction on consignment, only as donations.
Restricted species will not be accepted for auction unless accompanied by applicable permit and
authorization.
All items must be tagged with the seller’s assigned auction number and club of affiliation. Dry
goods must be clean and marked as to condition of operation. Fish and plants must also be labeled
with the common name, scientific name, and number of specimens. The number of each sex would
be informative. Items are to be labeled with the seller assigned number followed by a hyphen then
the specific item number. Items are to be numbered in sequence. The numbering information is
also to be recorded on the official auction registration form or a facsimile.
Any items such as fish, which require rebagging, will be subject to a $2 fine.
The Auction Chairperson retains the right to withhold any item for sale should it be of
questionable quality or presentation.
The “Ten Table” (10) system will be used to sell items; i.e. items ending with a ‘1’ on table one,
items ending with a ‘2’ on table two, etc. Tables will be auctioned in random order. All items must
be numbered in sequence.
Viewing of items will be allowed prior to the auction and during announced intermissions.
The percentage will be 70/30 in favor of the seller, unless changed by the auction
committee (see rule 21).
All accounts will be settled at the end of the auction; once the comptroller has had time to balance
receipts. No tab accounts will be closed during the auction. All tab accounts will be closed out at
the end of the auction day. Once accounts have been closed no further adjustments will be made.
It is the responsibility of the buyer/seller to ensure that their receipts are accurate.
