Classification Electricity Supply > Electricity Supply - Core Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 This unit standard is intended for, but is not restricted to, off-job assessment. 2 Credit for this assessment standard demonstrates that learners have a fundamental knowledge of the industry safety codes and statues within the Electricity Industry. 3 Performance and principles of work practices in relation to the outcomes and evidence requirements must comply with all current legislation, especially the Electricity Act 1992 (and amendments), Electricity Safety Regulations 2010 (and amendments) and any regulations and codes of practice recognised under that statute; the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (and amendments); and the Resource Management Act 1991. Electricity supply industry codes of practice and documented industry procedures include the current version of the Safety Manual – Electricity Industry (SM-EI) (Wellington: Electricity Engineers’ Association), and occupational safety and health codes of practice. Range includes but is not limited to – Electricity Act 1992 (and amendments), Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (and amendments), Resource Management Act 1991. Purpose and requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) approved Codes of Practice and the New Zealand Electrical Codes of Practice (NZECP) covering safety in the electricity supply industry are explained. Range includes but is not limited to – SM-EI, Electricity Engineers’ Association Guidelines. 1.5 Purpose of international standards covering safety in the electricity supply industry is explained. 1.6 Organisations having a safety role in the electricity supply industry are identified and their role described. Range 1.7 any three of the following – Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), Employers, Industry Associations, Electrical Workers Registration Board, Electricity Engineers’ Association. Safety responsibilities of individuals within the electricity supply industry are identified and described as defined in legislation and industry codes.
