knowledge of electricity industry safety statutes and codes, and

This unit standard is intended for, but is not restricted to, off-job assessment.

Credit for this assessment standard demonstrates that learners have a fundamental
knowledge of the industry safety codes and statues within the Electricity Industry.

Performance and principles of work practices in relation to the outcomes and
evidence requirements must comply with all current legislation, especially the
Electricity Act 1992 (and amendments), Electricity Safety Regulations 2010 (and
amendments) and any regulations and codes of practice recognised under that
statute; the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 (and amendments); and the
Resource Management Act 1991. Electricity supply industry codes of practice and
documented industry procedures include the current version of the Safety Manual –
Electricity Industry (SM-EI) (Wellington: Electricity Engineers’ Association), and
occupational safety and health codes of practice. A full list of current legislation and
industry codes is available from the Electricity Supply Industry Training Organisation,
