Integrals (9-10 weeks) Essential Question: What does an integral represent? o Evaluate definite integrals using the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. o Approximate definite integrals of functions represented algebraically, graphically, and by tables of values. Student Expectations for Learning: Self-Directed Learner Common Core Assessments o Cross-sections of a Solid Project Resources o Supplies students need to obtain: 3-ring binder, pencil, graphing calculator [It is recommended that each student own a calculator to use in school and at home. The TI-nspire is the recommended graphing calculator.] o Books used in course: Calculus, Early Transcendentals (Anton, Bivens, Davis, 7th Edition) Grading Formula used to calculate final grade o 45% each Quarter, 10% Final Exam Description or formula used to determine quarter grades: o 80% of each quarter is based upon Assessments: Quizzes, Tests, Projects; o and 20% on Other: Classwork, Homework, etc. Classroom Rules/Policies/Guidelines ALL students are expected to: 1. Arrive to class on time and be seated when the bell rings. Tardiness is unexcused unless a proper pass is presented and will be dealt with appropriately. 2. Be prepared for each class. Each student should have a pencil, notebook, required textbook, and homework assignments. All notes and assignments must be completed in pencil. 3. Take notes and keep all notes from class, as well as all class assignments (homework/classwork/quizzes/tests) in a notebook (3-ring binder). Your notebook should be neat, organized, and easy to read. These notebooks will serve as a great resource for preparing for the AP Test. Notebook (3-ring binder) - separate into the following sections with dividers: a) Notes (page one should be this sheet) b) Classwork/Homework c) Quizzes/Tests/Projects d) Blank Lined Paper 4. Treat everyone in the classroom with respect. I respect each individual in the classroom, and expect the same courtesy to be returned to me and your fellow classmates. I will not tolerate inappropriate language and behavior. 5. Homework is a mandatory requirement for this class, and will weigh heavily on your overall grade. As homework is reviewed at the start of class each day, late homework will not be accepted. All work must be shown with the answers in order to receive credit for the assignment. The heading on each assignment should be put in the top right corner of the paper: Name Date Due Math Course Also, for book assignments, the page # and example #’s should be written on the top line of the paper. 6. Be prepared for quizzes and tests. Quizzes are usually given every 1-2 weeks, and tests at the end of each unit. Tests will be announced at least 3 days in advance. If you are absent on the day of a test, you will be expected to take the test on the day that you return to school. If you are absent on the day of a review, you will be expected to take the test on the scheduled test date. Students must arrange to makeup quizzes and tests before school, after school, or during a study hall. Quizzes and tests will not be made up during class time. 7. Write legibly.
