Spring Newsletter 2009
For those members not in touch with the grape-vine, I am delighted to confirm that
the Kenmore Hotel have renegotiated the lease of Taymouth Castle Golf Course for
the forthcoming year, and we can once again play on our home turf. Marvellous!
Important: Please note. After reassessment by the SLGA, the course SSS for
Ladies is reduced to 71, but the Par stays at 72.
Winter has been somewhat miserable in terms of golfing conditions! Our Wednesday
12-hole Eclectic days were reduced to a mere handful. “Well done” to those who
turned up, and congratulations to the winner, Heddie Straw.
Congratulations are also due to our team of Ruth Campbell, Ann McGregor, Barbara
Pitney, Maya Robertson, and Heddie Straw, who won the first round of the Mail on
Sunday competition, at home, against Muthill, by 3½ to 1½. There were some close
but enjoyable matches. For the next round, we are drawn against our old rivals,
Dunkeld, and we hope to capitalise on the home advantage we have once again been
given.
The weather also managed to disrupt our indoor fun this winter, as snowbound roads
forced the last minute cancellation of the Pub Quiz at the Kenmore Hotel. We hope to
be able to reorganise this. However, arrangements for the Joint “Annual” Dinner at
the Kenmore Hotel on April 4th are in full swing, and those of us able to attend are
looking forward to a convivial evening with good company, complemented by
entertaining after-dinner speeches.
Unfortunately plans for a joint Rules Talk and Quiz have been thwarted by difficulties
in contacting the guest speaker, but alternatives are being investigated. When playing
golf, novel situations occasionally arise when no-one is quite sure of the rules, and
these discussion sessions and mini-tests can be very informative for some of us!
Plans are also proceeding for the improvement of the TCGC website, which we hope
will improve communication with members, and provide information about activities,
as well as potentially linking to advice on current weather conditions, for those,
including non-members, who travel some distance to play at Taymouth.
Last but not least, our Bring and Buy Sale, planned for 25th March, was postponed, as
the Clubhouse remains closed. We will advise you of a new date as soon as we are
informed of the Clubhouse opening.
For those members who are “indisposed”, please get back to full fitness ASAP. We
need you! A busy and, hopefully, enjoyable golfing season lies ahead of us, and I look
forward to sharing it with you all!
