HSC Scholarship & Financial Assistance Program (2/13/2011)
Hillsboro Soccer Club (HSC) provides interested and motivated youth the opportunity to
play soccer at a level that fits their skill and ability. HSC understands that participating
in competitive Classic soccer requires a greater financial commitment than Select and
Recreational soccer and strives to help players/families who need financial assistance
in a way that benefits players, their families and the club. Requests for financial
assistance will be considered on an individual basis and evaluated based upon
player/family need and available HSC registration fee scholarship funding.
The HSC Board is committed to maintaining low registration fees (when compared to
other Oregon and Portland Metropolitan Area soccer clubs) so that more Hillsboro kids
have the opportunity to play soccer. This commitment to low registration fees means
that the number and amount of registration fee scholarships is limited.
The HSC Board has approved the following scholarship and financial assistance
guidelines:

All Classic, Select and recreational players/families must make a minimum
deposit of $50 towards their registration fees upon making a team.

The maximum scholarship award is 50% of registration fees.

HSC Scholarship Forms must be completed and received by the HSC office
before games start for the Fall, Winter or Spring soccer seasons.

Players applying for registration fee scholarship must be eligible for the Hillsboro
School District’s Free and Reduced Lunch Program. Scholarship forms that do
not have “proof of need” attached will not be considered.

After HSC scholarships are awarded the remaining balance of player registration
fees are to be paid in full within one month of games starting for the Fall or
Spring soccer seasons. Payment plans for registration fees may be arranged
with the HSC Treasurer.

Failure to pay registration fees in full within one month of games starting for the
Fall or Spring soccer seasons will result in the player being made ineligible to
participate in practices/games and their player card being pulled until outstanding
fees are paid.

Classic players/families are responsible for paying tournament fees in
addition to registration fees.

Financial assistance is not offered for uniform purchase.
HSC will also consider registration fee scholarship requests from players/families with
other documented financial hardships (e.g., single parent receiving public assistance).
This information will be held in confidence by the HSC Scholarship/Financial Aid
Committee (President, Treasurer and one other Board Member) and will only be used to
evaluate financial need when awarding scholarships and granting financial assistance.
If financial assistance is needed and you are not eligible to be considered for a
registration fee scholarship, contact the HSC Treasurer to inquire about volunteering for
credit toward registration fees.
HSC is a nonprofit 501c3 volunteer run organization supported by player registration
fees. We expect every player/family to pay their registration fees. All players/families
that are awarded scholarships and/or granted financial assistance are required to
volunteer at least 4 hours (on the honor system) for the club or their team by helping to
maintain fields, working at HSC tournaments, or other volunteer opportunities such as
serving as a team parent.
